Hi everyone been reading a lot of the posts on here for information but need some help. I'm starting uni in september and am planning on getting a 125cc to get me there and back all year round.

I've looked at a honda CG125 06 plate.

I'm 6 foot 3 and pretty slim but I still weigh around 90kg and worry it'll struggle a bit. i've a budget of around £1900 but need to get all the gear (helmet, gloves and jacket) and CBT to go with it.

Let me know what you guys and girls reckon.

Peace, Jason.

You could probably get a honda xl125 varadero for that money, more go in it and will suit your build a bit better, looks and feels like a bigger bike. Cant go wrong with a cg but they do run out off puff pretty easy.

The Honda CG will not struggle with your weight. Trust me. I am heavier and I am learning on that.

Going for my mod 2 in two weeks all done on a CG.

Yeah cheers for the input. I do like the look of the varadero aside from the strange spokes. But as it's my first bike I wan't to get it from a dealer and they seem really pricey unless buying private. So i reckon I'll stick with the cg. Mate at work is already trying to wind me up about it but hey. I think they look alright with the naked front.

Does anyone has experience commuting all year round with a naked bike? I'm from nz and the winters here are pretty harsh compared to what I'm used to. How do you guys find it?

My brother goes to work all year on his CG. You will get soaked in rain. And you will get the full force of the wind etc. The fairings on other bikes will really protect you.

But if you have good, waterproof clothes with thermals etc you should be pretty much fine anyway.

How far are you planning to commute to uni mate and how often.
I'm the same height as you and I did my cbt on a cg125, it was far too small, felt like i was riding on my knees

Not that much that don't.... Unless you ride something like a Gold Wing of the larger Bm's with the massive fairings.
Small one only tend to keep wind off you and make long rides less tiring. Thumbs Up

Am 6ft 3 and my first bike was a Honda varadero 125, im a big guy and felt the CG was fine if you are a bit smaller. The Varadero is a good bike to learn on, i used it to commute to work for a year or so. Its heavier than most 125s so you wont get much top end but its good in a way, when i moved from the varadero to the CBR it did not feel much bigger. Its not like the 125 sportsbikes, it does not look out of place beside big bikes.

I got knocked off my varadero and got a CG125 as replacement bike, it felt tiny and i felt like a bit of a muppet on it, however it was fun, put a smile in my face dumping the clutch at the lights to watch the front come up. Laughing

I'm a 6'4" fat b*stard, and I never had any problems on the CG125. Comfortable in fact....

I'm 6'1" and ride a Varadero, love mine, big comfy with good mpg and will happily sit at 70-75mph. Looks bigger than a 125 as said above, they do hold their price well though. Good for getting used to a bigger bike due to there weight, good visability and riding position. I used to have a cg and did my cbt on one, great little bike but I felt really cramped after 30mins or so.

Enjoy whatever you decide on, your world is about to be opened up now that your taking the plunge in to bikes Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

It's inside leg measurement that matters...not overall height, IMO.

If you have short legs (say less than 33") then you won't find it too uncomfortable on most bikes. If you have over 33", then the seat to peg ratio starts getting a bit cramped and you need to start shopping around.

The fact you have your feet planted on the ground when you've stopped, you will find a massive advantage, not a hinderance. Thumbs Up

Try riding a few different bikes, I'm 6'4" and ride a Honda NSR and did 450 miles in day last week with no discomfort so it's worth finding something you find comfortable rather than what you think will suit you

Your not a particularly heavy guy, just tall really. As people have said a CG won't be the worst bike in the world and if you've ridden nothing else you won't notice.
A Honda XR125L is basically a trailie looking CG, much better seat height for taller people, my long legged gf preffered it at 5'10".

I was gonna say that! I've got one of the old style CGs, and it's great fun. I do look a bit of a tw*t on it, but I can live with that Smile
Frugal, easy to ride, enough power(unless the missus is on the back, it's 38°C in the shade, and we're going for the local mega hill!) to get around on, and forgiving of daft mistakes.

im 6'3'' and about 104 kilos. i had my 96 cg 125 at 73mph at one point down a nice big hill lol. it would cruise at 55 on flats and slight slopes you should be fine. the xl125 does sound friggin great for a 125 when it has cans on it!
