PostPosted: 12:14 - 02 Aug 2010    Post subject: Stolen bike NEWCASTLE Reply with quote

Hi everyone
Been a while since I last posted on here and I wish this post could be of a more upbeat nature but unfortunately not Sad

I rode my bike up to my house in Newcastle yesterday from Northants (which was a mighty fun trip of A and B roads, being still on L plates and all that so no motorways :p) Anyway I was woken up this morning by my housemate telling me some scrote had broken in and stolen it from our backyard in the Heaton district (it had been there less than 12 hours...) The Police have been round but didnt seem to hopeful about recovering it.

Just wanted to advertise it on here incase anyone in the Newcastle area sees it around, its a white Yamaha XT125X, its got a snapped clutch lever and is missing the exhaust heat shield on the right hand side. The number plate is KP09*** Theres a picture of it below. Also if they've left them on there's 2 L plates, one on the front right suspension fork and one underneath the number plate at the rear.

If anyone sees it around the area please either let me know on here or ring Northumbria Police to let them know, I would be very greatful for any information about it. Thanks.

Op, keep an eye on the local newspapers, gumtree and ebay in case someone tries to sell the bike or its parts. If the bike has any unusual marks or dents about it report this to the police as well. Hope you get the bike back and if you find the culprit beat the crap right out of them.

I learned it the hardway too, had had my bike stolen in the front garden. If bike has alarm, it would be a different story

A bike like that needs at least an alarm lock like a Oxford Boss lock! I know mine has saved my bike at least twice so far! Ill never own another bike without some form of alarm on it.

I always lock my bike up to something when I go out! The only time i worry about my bike is when its in my back garden and now my gate and bike both have alarms on them.

An alarm+good lock will stop 95% of kids nicking your bike.

Hi guys
@ Makaveli_Ryder, thanks very much mate, also thanks for the heads up on the other site, iv posted over there aswell now so fingers crossed!

Annoyingly enough this was actually the first time ever I've not put my disc lock on the bike, normally it would have had both the steering and the disc lock on but for some reason I must have just have forgotten to put the disc lock on, also the back gate for the yard was locked but they managed to break that pretty easily...! The disc lock does have an alarm but its so sensitive I'd actually taken the batteries out soon after getting it because it was just constantly going off....! They'll definetly be going back in now though! Once again thanks for all the support and advice guys Thumbs Up .

Police Police UPDATE Very Happy Police Police

Received a letter today from a local garage saying that my bike has been recovered from an estate in Byker and that I can go collect it on Monday, two guys were seen with it acting suspiciously on a footpath but had gone by the time the Police arrived but they've got descriptions of them so hopefully the scrotes will be caught!

Here comes the sting though.....apparently having had my bike stolen, probably abused and broken, I now have to pay £150 for the luxury of it in storage costs to the garage thats storing it for the Police.... Rolling EyesRolling Eyes! What kind of country do we live in where if someones property is stolen they then have to pay for the pleasure of getting it back..... Rolling Eyes I was speechless when I read that I'm going to have to pay for it! Apparently though if they do catch the scrotes that stole it then I can claim compensation and make them pay for it but I have to be honest that I'm not holding out for that to actually happen!!

Oh well, atleast I'm getting her back on Monday, heres hoping she's not too damaged and also that they do catch the scrotes.

Thanks to everyone on here for your support Smile

Doesn't your insurance cover the costs? mine always has.

Still £150 better than £1500 or however much the bike cost you.

Its a nice bike, enjoy riding it.

c-m, apparently it should but unfortunately we made a mistake when renewing the insurance and so it wasn't actually covered for theft apparently Sad ...

Even so I still don't see how they expect me to pay for storage of a bike that was stolen from me, it's not my fault that the bike was stolen so why should I have to pay for it to be stored after it's been stolen....!?

Still atleast I'm getting it back, hopefully will be able to carry on enjoying riding it thanks Smile, haven't actually been told what condition its in though.....

They have this ridiculous system where the police call a random private company and ask them to take your bike away, which they gladly do, and they charge you for it.

Why the police don't have their own department for this shit is beyond me - a big storage yard out of town, and one or two guys with a pickup is all they'd need.

Wouldn't cost much Rolling Eyes

Well I've spoken to the PC who's dealing with my case, apparently he hasn't actually seen the bike himself yet as he was not the one who recovered it but he says it had been hotwired, my understanding is that to do this they will have had to punch the ignition switch out and apparently also pull out wires all over the shop. Hopefully this and the lack of a number plate will be the worst of it. Will do on the pics.

I'm getting a new numberplate made up on Monday so hopefully it will be in a condition to ride to a repair workshop otherwise this bills going to get quite hefty if it needs to be picked up!!

It really is f******g rediculous in all honesty, up to now I had always thought that the police did have their own 'impound lots' where stolen vehicles were kept. It really would not be expensive to do and would also mean that someone who hasn't already had to pay enough by having their vehicle stolen then has to pay even more money to be given it back! To be honest the fact that even the company's that are hired by the Police to do the job make people pay really shows a complete lack of respect on their part I feel, it is just sheer greed and beggars belief quite frankly Rolling Eyes !

have you only got Third party only insurance on a 09 reg bike !
did you pay cash or is the bike on finance ? if its on finance it must be insured fully comp for the term of the hp ! have you had a good check of your insurance.
Police used to keep all the stolen bikes in the back yard of police stns years ago but as with most things now all the recovery etc of bikes/cars has been put out to private firms so apart from the £150 recovery cost you will be racking up another £15-25 a day in storage charges from the day it went in there ! iv had 2 bikes stolen over the years old suzuki X7 and a brand new 3 month old RD500LC neither were recovered but the rd500 was replaced with a brand spanker as it was only 3 months old.

The original insurance ran out about the start of July so had only recently renewed the insurance, unfortunately for some reason or another the theft box didn't get ticked or whatever and so only got Third party apparently. However I think I will just have a read through the insurance contract again just to be sure that the insurers aren't having me on!!

This was my assumption that they still did keep them at the station. Yep the letter says it costs an extra £10 a day, oh and yes they're charging me for this weekend when I got the letter yesterday and can't pick it up till Monday because the garage is closed at weekends.....Rolling Eyes

Sorry to hear you didn't get either of yours back, although guess getting a spanking new one as a replacement isn't too bad!!

Well went and got her back today....

First thoughts were, you sure that's my bike, mines white and red.....not badly sprayed black...oh right the buggers have sprayed her!

On a worse note, the headlamp had been taken off and all the wiring at the front ripped out in order to hotwire it, all the lights (apart from the break light) and the mirrors have been taken off, the steering lock was cut through with an angle grinder, they've ripped off the rear mudguarddy bit and number plate and they've taken an angel grinder to parts of it by the looks of things....including the frame and engine serial numbers (no wonder the police took so long to let me know they'd found it, it was hardly recognisable save for the snapped clutch lever and the missing exhaust shield!) Also unexplainably they'd ripped the battery connectors off the end of the wires going to the battery and then frayed the copper wiring and connected it like that...seems fairly pointless!

Managed to get her started on the kickstart (eventually, took about 15-20 mins of kicking it,) it would seem that the starter button on the handlebars is still connected, even though the ignition switch is not so the electrics kick in with the kickstart but there's no display on the screen.

Pics below:

The next two show the destroyed frame and engine numbers,

https://i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab217/Powdermonkey_bucket/IMG_0311.jpg

Next one shows how I bodged a new numberplate on, having nowhere to attach it to I had to take off the numberplate light and use the screw and nut attaching that to put through the plate aswell....
https://i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab217/Powdermonkey_bucket/IMG_0308.jpg

I know it could have probably been worse but it's bad enough! Although I am slightly leaning towards liking this model of bike in black...just not my one...and especially not such a shoddy job!!

Tried ringing the garage today but to no avail, will be ringing again tommorow and hopefully getting a quote on the repairs soon and will have to decide what to do once I get that!

They made a mess of that. When I had a bike nicked last year they bunged a rag in the tank and torched it. I restored the bike but never rode it again.

If it was mine I wouldn't want it back in that condition Sad

Hope the repair bill is not too big, but iIfeel that it will be unless you can buy replacement parts cheap and do the work yourself.
