I've been given a CB650 nighthawk, that has had a fair bit of money thrown at it (marzochi air adjustable shocks, fancy 'zorst, fancy swingarm etc) but had a problem with the 3rd cylinder.

Instead of throwing more money at a possible money-pit engine, is there anything from another bike that would fit without too much trouble?

I'm looking at making some sort of cafe racer out of it.

Ta

UMG Says: The old CB500 four taken out to the point where it became rather fragile and vibratory without instilling some blood and guts into the design. Has some uses as a tourer or hack. Beware of rattly top ends, caliper rot, burnt out starters, trashed oil filter bolt head and blown gaskets. Unless suspension upgraded age turns handling weird. Neat looking Nighthawk model, in both OHC and DOHC forms.

UBG Says: Not a smaller CB750 but actually a bored out CB550. Suffers from cylinder head gasket leaks and problems with alternator stator wiring. Post 1982 models called CB650SC Nighthawk, with improved custom styling and black painted engine.

So the suggestion is, any of the CB500/550/650 SOHC 'four' motors.

Not so sure why they reckon it was 'fragile'; used to play with a 550 motor with Yoshi 640 big-bore kit, and cams & 14:1 c/r that made about 75bhp, and in a TZ yam frame lapped Mallory quicker than the early CBR6's..... err.... scrub that...... yes, 'fragile'! Just removed rose tinted specs and remember how many hors were spend doing rebuilds to the number of hours riding time it gave for them!
