I said I would update on my whinging post the other day. Here's what I sent to the local Highways department. They have an online reports system for complaints etc.

I have to travel to Birmingham Business Park for my place of work. I exit the A446 on a slip road to the A452 island by the above business park. This slip road and traffic island are constantly littered with rubble ranging from house bricks to large chunks of foam, which varies on a daily basis.

The problem appears on and after the entrance/exit to S.I.T.A Holding UK of Packington House, Packington lane, Little Packington, Meriden, Coventry, CV7 7HN.

This road is also constantly covered with a layer of grime emanating from the exit of this company. In wet conditions the surface becomes extremely slippery and covers everything with a layer of sticky grime. As the rider of a motorcycle, the whole area mentioned is a recipe for disaster. I would hate to think about the consequences of hitting any of this debris or something being thrown up by passing traffic. The dirt sticks to every part of my motorcycle, leathers and helmet, more importantly it covers my visor obstructing vision and is very difficult to remove.

I write to you with the hope that S.I.T.A Holding UK can be made to recognise the duty of care that their company has to the safety of the road users that have to use this carriageway.


I'm also going to send a letter with more or less the same content to the local police station asking for it to be kept on record, just in case myself or some other unfortunate have an accident there.

Now the wait to see if anything happens, err or not.

This cannot be stressed enough.

Get in touch with your local MAG.

They are the type of interfering busybodys (in a good way) who can help you with this sort of action.

I hope you have better luck with them than we have with the environmental tree officer, trying to get them to trim back the council trees on our estate that touch our house and overhang our garden has been a nightmare. We have been in touch with the council since February...and still nothing!!!! Despite reminding them WHO pays their wages and exactly HOW much council tax

I see that they have referred to the building work that is taking place on the site next to their exit and perhaps suggesting that this has contributed to the problem. The hazard was there before any building work started to take place on this site and is easily traceable back to the Sita entrance as a large dirty slick with rubble and foam scattered along it. The building work mentioned has so far taken the form of an entrance road to the site. I fail to see where in their building procedures they would have been using items such as foam and house bricks to complete the work and as I stated earlier the route is easily traceable. I would therefore suggest that the procedures Sita follow are not effective and am only too willing to provide photographic evidence to this effect.

Within general conversation at my work place I am now aware of two motorists that have sustained damage to their vehicles from this area. I am sure that if I were to circulate an email to the rest of my colleagues there would be a good number of people who have had various incidents at this location. This course is something to consider, as well as forwarding an email to the park management with a request for it to be passed to all businesses on the park, to judge the response. I am sure that it would be overwhelming.

Perhaps Sita would consider revising/upgrading their procedures as this may save a great deal in insurance claims as well as someone’s life.

Where the abbreviation EA is used, I assume this means the Environmental Agency? I would be only too keen to bring to their attention the concerns that I have raised, as well as the photographic evidence I could provide and ask for them to take special consideration of these points.

I realize that at the moment this may appear to be one person’s dispute on what seems to have been a bad day. I would say that within the short time I have started to bring my complaint to the attention of others, that this now seems to be a growing common cause.

As I have already said, I appreciate all that you have done on this matter already and hope that a suitable outcome can be reached.


Now to see where that goes.

I'm going to start moving things along if I don't get a satisfactory conclusion. Papers, magazines, MAG, BMF, Environment Agency and the people that have to use the road.

It's not only bikes/bikers this affects it's all road users and as I said, I know some people here at work have had damage done.

Have you got any pictures? Would really say more than words. One of those disposable camera should do the job. Remember to record date and time when taken.

Ok, only FYI I was once told for car accidents etc. it's better to have negatives as digital can be 'doctored' (re fake naked celeb pics!). You could have film developed and put images onto disk for ease of email etc. HTH

Just thought only really an issue about negatives if something ends up in court. Could also get the local journos down to take a pic then it's bound to have some credibility

I remember TC once saying that it doesn't matter if the photo's are digital or film, even those taken from camera phones are admissable.
