So, due to my crash, and the non-sleeping and nightmares and aggressiveness and all that jazz, the third party insurers offered for me to see a psychologist when my solicitor started threatening them with court.

So i now have an appointment to go see someone on monday...

Now i've never been to one before, so what can i expect?

Cheers

Not a lot, they'll just talk to you and ask a few questions. Don't try to second guess anything they do, and don't think too hard about what your answers are. The idea is that they access your subconscious which is easier if you aren't consciously thinking about things too much.

I'm surprised they are sending you to a psychologist as a counselor would be more appropriate I would have thought. Maybe they are a councilor/psychologist.

I grew up with a psychologist by my side, (i was a troubled child).

They are strange people very calm, dull and they ask you how you feel about everything.

They're not that bad though so dont worry about it at all.

Good luck and try not to seem too mental you might just leave in a looney van.

What type of psychologist are you seeing?

Without knowing the type of someone you're seeing, it's quite hard for anyone to say what you can expect.

In vague terms, I'd expect it just to be boring assessment type stuff. You get bonus points if in your answers you use big words that the psychologist doesn't understand. Thumbs Up

He mentioned some form of CBT i think, i suppose i'll just wee when i get there eh.

I got smacked side-on by a car and thrown about 30 odd feet. hurt quite a bit and i can't remember the actual impact... tried to walk and stuff but couldn't.
wasn't very nice, sitting in the back of an ambulance feeling like i was about to pass out and not being able to move my right arm or leg....

So yeah, wasn't too serious but it's the first time i'd ever been like that.

Well, CBT is either Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or Cock and Ball Torture.

We'll soon find out I guess! Razz

Both kinds, that is.
the second sounds rather appealing.

Behavioural psychologist I saw just kept asking what I thought and how I felt about stuff. Eh.. An idea...

Him : What happened?

You : I crashed

Him : What did you think when it happened?

You : Bugger...

Him : How did that make you feel?

You : Piffed off...

Not quite accurate bit more involved than that, but the behavioural ones I met just kept asking what I thought then how I felt...

Like has already been said mate, they will just talk about what you want to talk about. They will ask you questions just answer them truthfully and try not to think too hard about it. Also don't be worried to talk about something or give an answer that you think may make them think your nuts/fucked up/or gay. If it's the answer to the question then just say it.

Also have fun mate, it's a free Pyschologist so lap it up. Thumbs Up

Basically talking and filling in forms then depending on your situation and needs it moves on from there.

For a couple of months after my accident I had a rolling 4-day memory. On a Thursday I could remember back to Monday, but on the Friday I could only remember to Tuesday. The nurses arranged for a psychologist to come and check for any signs of mild brain damage etc. After a load of banile questions asking me about what day it was and what floor I was on, I finally told him to fuck off when he tugged on his ear and said: "What's this?". It's your fucking ear mate.

Try not to fail the assessment, might mean a bigger compo payment but also means your putting your licence at risk!

Side effects could also be related to stress? Think we've all experienced that.

Sounds like your also going through a quarter life crisis. Think most of us have been there aswell.

Best of luck and I hope it goes well. Hopefully it's something you'll look back on with a smile on your face! Thumbs Up
