Ebay - WTF????? (charges)

So , sold a load of crap on ebay last month , the final lot came to just under £300 however it was just stuff like games & dvd's witha 10p insertion fee.
I've just got an email saying they want £29.79 off me

Basically charged me 10% on every final price of everything i sold .
Granted i haven't used ebay in a while but what the fuck is this???

I've already payed their insertion fees now they want to take my profit off me too ?

What's going on ? this didn't use to be the case with them , what do they want MORE money off me for

ebay is a rip off, you can do something slightly different with the method but enjoy the exact same ends with out the hassle by using gumtree.

It does seem cheeky. I suspect your choice is to either never sell things with them again, or accept that they are charging more than you realised.

I think it's worth it in the long run, as I dont know of any good alternatives to ebay.

Sucks don't it.. and if you dont pay it, ebay refear the debt to some cuxts called IQOR who harass you with about 10 phone calls a day and add charges onto the ebay fees.

Then there's Paypal's fee too.

Daylight Robbery. The money I kept only just broke even. Waste of time actually listing it all in the first place. Cheaper and easier just throwing the stuff away!

Tis a bitch, but theres nothing else thats anywhere near as popular as ebay which now sucks for sellers.

Although 'vouchers' seems to pop up now and again for me, got 10% discount off an iphone 4 yesterday which is probably something to do with the amount i've shelled out in sellers fees.

Things have changed, providing you dont want a tacky auction with all the shitty add ons, Insertion fee's are now free.

They just take a bit more of your final sale instead.

I got ebay fees for £11.40, as far as I cared I had already paid loads to put the sale up. I didn't realise there was going to be extra fees. First I heard about it was a letter from debt collectors for £11.40, they left a million calls, like 40 in one day. Loads of letters 2/3 letters a day. Had I got an email or something from ebay to say I owed them I would have paid. I won't use them to sell or buy now.

Ebay have always charged final value fees. Its usually been around the 8-10% mark. Although there are some fixed like motor auctions.

All the charges are listed on their website for all to see, so its not like they're conning you! Just RTFS!

Ebay was never intended to be what it is today, it was sold to moneymakers and they will take what they can get they know damn fine well nothing else comes close.

Yes the fees are high, can cost you £15 to sell an item for £100 but when it comes down to it i can sell something within hours due to ebays massive exposure.

A bargain resell convenience is now a premium service.

Unless millions move on to something else overnight you'll have to put up with it.

There is a way round it. If you offer your buyer a reduced price, if they send you the money direct, and mutually withdraw from the won item.

As a buyer, I'd be unlikely to do that, as I like the protection paypal gives me to get my money back, if item isnt as described.

I'll never use ebay to sell anything again! perhaps smaller items but definately not a bike or a car.
After a bidder backing out after winning my 125, i relisted it as ebay said it was free. The way they worded it was misleading, its only free if you actually sell the item (Fair enough i suppose), but when the second listing ended the winning bidder just didn't get in touch! I've just lost faith in the decency of buyers on there now. After buying 2 bikes off ebay i got in touch INSTANTLY after winning the bid, but alot of these people dont seem to posess the intelligence to wipe their own arses in the morning!

Suppose ebay are good in a way though, if you report a non paying bidder then they refund your final sale value. But ring them, you'll be connected to a clueless indian woman on the quietest phoneline known to man

Still, i am at a loss of £32 which could have been avoided

Basically, the subs were listed as collection only from Leeds or some location in-between me and them.

I know, it's a reasonable offer but there's some reasons as to why I did list it as collect only:

Mother has a Grade 4 Glioblastoma and we take turns in taking her to the hospital for Chemo when we're off work so we cannot really wait for a courier to pick up the boxes.

I'm working the remainder of this week and won't be able to package them, if for some miracle I found 2 big, strong boxes.

Took me 4 months of asking pubs when working to procure boxes of suitable strength to post 10 street light lanterns (massive things, I restore them) which I had listed at the same time. Not sure if I can get hold of any big enough boxes so quick.

I did ask him to post up some boxes if he can. I may pay for that as it will add more cost to the subs on his part.....

What difference does it make it the subs are collected by a courier rather than the buyer themselves?

I've had stuff collected by couriers where they've brought the box and packing with them, I just handed them what was being collected and signed their touch screen computer thingy. That's probably more straight forward than something being collected by the buyer themselves as the buyer might look over the subs and then try to start haggling the price.
