Finding a decent first bike sub £750 (125cc)

Hello, this is my first post on the forums.
Does anyone have recommendations for a first bike I can get around the £750 range?

Currently looking at CG125, YBR125, GN125, EN125

I'm after something with electric start and 60mph top end, seen others on here grab a deal but I'm having real trouble finding anything on ebay/gumtree/pistonheads, any other sites I can check?

I can go for about £850 if the bike's local, doesn't help all the 125's seem to be London based (i'm up in Yorkshire)

welcome to the madness and good luck finding a bike.

any of the makes you suggested would be fine.

the cgs are great bulletproof engines and easy bikes to ride and are probably the best bet. although the ybr is the yamaha equivalent and is well rated for making a start in biking.

if you have checked ebay etc already have a look at the motorcycle news site as they have a for sale section

also try auto trader as they also have a bike section.

Cheers, i'll stick it out on autotrader refreshing. The main prob with the old style CG's is the lack of electric start, I had a load of problems with stalling on my CBT, figure it'll be fine after a while but I don't wanna be doing it in the middle of nowhere in addition to riding the bike home

I have the EN 125-2A and it is great. Starts first time every time, bit of choke while I get my helmet and gloves on and then I'm off up the road. Good as there aren't loads of them about and it's not trying to look like anything other than a nice wee bike.

I got mine for £800 with 3k on the clock but it was through a mate. There are only 3 on AT and they're all ~£1200 or so. If you can find one I'd say dive on it if it's clean and tidy.

I know this doesn't actually answer your question, but hope the info helps.....

I have £1000 to spend but only want one typ of bike

Autotrader to me seems very over rated and sky high dealer prices!

Ebay motors

I'm now going to stick out the winter in a car and then do bike test next summer

Really you would want to get a bit more money together and get , dt125 , xlr125 , rs125 , cbr125 best bikes ive had experience with.

Hull, out in the middle of nowhere a bit.

I'm fine with travelling, just it'll be my first time riding alone and going a few hundred miles right off the mark is a bit scary to say the least. Learning experience I guess.

How much would you be after for the EN? Had a look and that model does look the part. I did my CBT on the GN125, if it's anything like that i'd be happy.

I am now the proud owner of a shiny 2002 CG125
Picked her up for £625, took her back 70 miles home.
Scary at first but I got into the swing of things after a while.
Already used to the mass overtaking since I top out at about 55mph

Funnily enough, that's exactly what i paid for my 2002 cg125 over 2 years ago, so nice to see they're keeping their value!

You should be able to get more than 55mph too. I got to 70 on my way home when I bought mine, but haven't been anywhere near since though.

I thought that too, maybe it's just the bike. I'd have no idea where to start on trying to figure out why it won't make it above 50-55.
