I'd write a polite and to the point letter pointing out that you feel it is unreasonable to expect the receipt to be to hand after 4 years and you expect a company of Rukka's reputation and quality to cover your gear in such circumstances.

A well constructed, civil letter can go a long way.

By putting it aside in a safe place, if you bought something because it has a five year warranty that specifies you need the original receipt?

From the Rukka site:
Quote:

Rukka gives a guarantee for five years (two years for accessories) from the date of purchase against faults in material or workmanship in the motorcycle outfits. In such cases Rukka will either repair the garment or replace it. The guarantee does not cover misuse, faulty care or normal wear and tear. Save your sales receipt – the date of purchase and point of sale printed on it are required to claim the guarantee.

However, yes, a polite letter, perhaps suggesting you had tried to keep it, but it got thrown out by someone else or something.

I think if something lasted me for 4 years that I used day in day out I wouldn't complain.

That's me though.

Sure it costs a lot, but gear tends to.

if you paid by card or cheque you can use the back statement as proof of purchase.

might even be able to if you did so in cash as i think shops keep receipt rolls for 7yrs, providing you can notability see when you withdrew the cash, i.e. a lump sum or several lump sums over the course of a week

With the amount that Rukka gear costs I think it's more than fair to expect them to make good on the warranty.

Just a thought, but given bike gear tends to change every year or so, can't you simply point out that you have [specific gear here] from 2006 and that it's impossible for it to be more than five years old? Unless of course they had been doing that gear for years beforehand, but I'd have thought there's a fair chance they hadn't.

Handy for things like V5s, insurance documents, MOT certificates, loan agreements, warranties, receipts, licence counterparts, service records, passports, bank statements etc. etc. etc.

Get used to using one now before, oh I don't know, you need a 4 year old receipt to back up a warranty or something. Especially when it's worth £1000.

It was around his 18th. So you should see if the shop can re-do you a receipt.

To be fair it does have a 5 Year guarantee Wink

If all my stuff had a 5 Year guarantee and it went wrong in 4 years, I'd expect it to be sorted.

I purchased a faulty product from a well know bike shop and had lost the receipt. My bank were able to issue me with a print out of my old statement and I was able to prove purchase that way.

If they've been water tight for 4 years I'd be fairly satisfied.

Ask them if they'll repair them as a goodwill gesture.
