As much as I dislike Police this is bollocks. He probably got what he deserved.

He hardly looks very frail to me, and I'd be interested to know in what legitimate ways he made his money to buy such and expensive car with a private plate. I have a suspicious feeling his 'business' isnt in stocks & shares or property in the 'normal' sense for some reason.

Edit: Also, if it is completely genuine as told in that article then the guy should have his licence taken away as he's obviously a danger to other road users.

Yea, just from the URL I knew I'd be annoyed - bloody sensationalist journalism.

Some one gets treated a bit roughly after hitting a police officer with a 2t car, then driving off while being chased by police, having to be stopped by a 'stinger'? Sounds like he got off quite lightly compared to a lot of people.
Yes, I think it was wrong - but frankly there's a hell of a lot worse things going on to worry about.

If it was some kid in a saxo it wouldnt be news. and the kid would be missing all his teeth.

the prick knocked a copper over then legged it to 'get his medication'

if you read more he was convicted for hitting the officer with his car but not charged.

He pulled over after his car tyres were punctured by a police stinger, because he knocked over a policeman over, then was chased for some considerable time.
If a chav in a barry'd up fiesta had done, everyone would be cheering. Except they wouldn't, because it wouldn't be newsworthy at all.
Being 70 doesn't excuse you from stopping for the police or not knocking people over - if you do to police, I'd hope you should expect a harsh response whatever age you are.

Join the police force, then - though they have been suspended, I'm saddened that it's for this case; as I say, there are so many worse cases where police misconduct is much less justified.

This did make me very angry...at an arrogant old fool who shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car.

Knocking over a police officer, then driving off because he "thought the matter had been dealt with"? More like he got pissed off that the officers had the audacity to fine him for not wearing a seatbelt, and decided to drive off in a red mist rage.

And claiming to think a blue lighting police car was giving you an escort up the country lane back home? Nah, this is his bullshit story after the fact. He realised he f*cked up.

I would also question what a recent stroke victim is doing behind the wheel of a car, a stroke victim to fears he "may have another stroke". Bloody dangerous, wonder if his GP knows he is behind the wheel of such a huge car.

On the video he appears to have stopped before the stinger so tyres weren't punctured. Nothing shown of the alleged copper being knocked down (which would probably have been earlier on in the same video), and the windows were smashed when the car was waiting without them even trying to open the door.

Difficult one as he hadn't stopped.

All the best

+1 for lol @ the daily fail reader.

old prick shouldnt be on the road if he didnt understand they would follow him if he knocked a copper over. dozy fecker. even more so if he didnt even realise that he had hit him. the idiot didnt even put it in park/handbrake on when they were smashing his windscreen.

idiot cops though, why try and break the windscreen... oh thats right go for the strongest pane of glass that is designed to keep a flying body inside the car. kudos...

It did, but does that justify the damage? Maybe he really is as stupid as his excuse sounds.

99% likely to be an auto so quite likely the handbrake isn't used regularly when stopping, and if someone was smacking hell out the glass a foot from your head and then reaching through at you and the controls would you calmly put it the handbrake on? And as to knocking the copper over he wasn't convicted for that and nothing is shown on the short section of video released (when it almost certainly was recording then). Afraid my cynicism views it as one of those things the police use, like the threats of "assaulting a police officer" when someone brushes past them.

All the best

Keith

Weird that he didn't get done for possession with intent to supply.

The guy is obviously a dealer yet the police didn't search the car and find his stash. Confused

now Now Children,

TBF he did stop, run over a police man... drive for an age without stopping with blues and two`s behind him.

Only then did they try and enter the vehicle after stopping the second time.

I`m sure there is more to this than is being made out, and he certainly isnt an 'innocent victim' in all this.

Where's the video of the copper being run over? Surely it'd be on the footage from the police car? I notice he wasn't done for assualt.

The bloke is undoubtedly in the wrong for not pulling over (and driving away in the first place), but it still looks like a massive over reaction from the policemen involved. If stupidity is to be awarded by having your car smashed in by the police then the roads will be a quieter place...

Maybe they dropped the charges.

But if we are to take the reports as factual. That he

A: Was stopped
B: Drove off and hit an officer while in the process of being delt with
C: Then Failed to stop while being followed

What do you suggest the police do? What would you do?

What would your gut feeling be on why he chose to react in the way he did?
