Got a trackday booked there for next wednesday, been watching some videos on youtube, and it looks like a fast track, with apparently the longest straight in the UK.

Anyone been? What's it like there? Going with my boss, so I'll be switching between the GSX-R and the 595.

Cheers, Thumbs Up.

i'd stick with the 1000cc, i went on a 600 and the thousands just obliterate you on the back straight, not that bad you think, but it is when you have been overtaking the same person every lap, only to have them whizz by on the back straight.

My least favourite track so far, cadwell and anglesey is where it's at Thumbs Up

Back straight along the camping field is looooooooooooooooonnnnggg....Followed by some corners with a very dodgy camber. Track becomes like an ice rink in the wet so hope for a dry day Thumbs Up

Is that for the novice day, yeah?

I was about to make a very similar thread, but I guess I'll see you there, will be my first trackday and christ alive am I excited!

Doing it on my Gixxer 6, but not too worried because the three mates I'm going with are all also on 600's, except for one guy on a k1 750, which according to a few roll-on races, isn't actually that much quicker than my k8 600, so a fairly level playing field between us should hopefully make for a fun day!

Cannot wait, but just praying for a dry day!

He's got the option of 1000cc or 955cc (or something like that Smile ).

Personally I still prefer a 600 there. Ok, all I did to 'setup' my GSXR was three clicks on all damping settings (which got it comfortable enough in the corners), but I found it getting in to a headshake at 150mph or so when knocking it into fourth a little 'concerning'.

Only kept riding the GSXR because I was having problems with the 675 - was feeling really man-fluey, so not really trying to push it, so might have been different if I was a bit more focused.

Getting on the power decently coming out of the corners, I've generally found the litre bikes only start to properly get away a decent bit over halfway down the long straights.
At a pace day I was lapping same times with some litre bikes on an SV, that WAS a bit frustrating, but never found it that bad on a 600.

I like Snetterton because it's quite a 'basic' track with the esses the only slightly 'technical' corner(s).
While it may seem boring, I think it gives you a really good chance to focus on the basics - braking late (revvet straight is excellent for this as you can run on if you do get it too late), corner speed (Corams is ideal to get faster and faster, though plenty others are good too) and of course most of them are great for practising getting on the power earlier and earlier - as most have at least a little 'breather' before the next one.

I went last year and wasn't so keen, however I did another day last month and quite enjoyed it.

The straights have a certain novelty appeal but that wears off by about the second session, Might be more fun on a 1000 though. I was just cracking 120mph down Revvetts on my 400, fast 1000's will probably hit 180ish? so it feels like I'm going backwards!

Bombhole is good fun, Coram is boring and kills your tyres, although the braking at the end for russell can be interesting if your riding in a pack all trying to pass each other, Riches and sears are probably my favorite corners.

Was damp for a couple of sessions the first time I went, I didn't find it too slippery and I'm on the greatest wet weather tyre known to man, the mighty Dunlob D208. Not nearly as slippery as a wet Rockingham.

Ive done it on a 400 and sv650 before and it was fine, found it quite grippy in the wet, only odd camber is the right hander going onto revett straight.

Great track enjoy Thumbs Up

Very Happy

See you there then mate, look out for an R plate T595 in red and on 06 plated blue and white GSX-R1000 with some scuffed up R/H fairings.

I'm looking forward to it big time. Only done one trackday before and that was a Ron Haslam race school, and I dont think you can call that a trackday. Unless following someone round a tiny part of Silverstone for 90 minutes is in fact, a 'trackday' Rolling Eyes.

Thumbs Up

Nice one, I will indeed look out for you, I'll be on a blue and white K8 600, 59 plate, not that my numberplate will even be in the same county...

Be there with a blue 09 Ninja 6, a red and black 03 CBR600rr and a blue and white K1 750, should be able to spot us!

Kinda interested in this Ron Haslam business, really just 90 minutes on track? Would you say it was worth it?

How hard is Snetterton on tyres?

No.

Although my boss paid for it, so I dont want to sound cu*tish, but if I'd forked out for it personally I'd of been pissed off.

I'm still sounding cu*tish.

Well the weather was brilliant, couldn't have asked for or expected a better day really!

Also, I am now officially addicted to riding on the track! After the first session I wanted to book another day!

Absolutely awesome day, as soon as I can be I'll be back on track!

Didn't see you there to be honest Rob, I was right down the bottom, in pit 3/4, which was right next to the photos and the lavs, so didn't really need to go anywhere!

Whereabouts were you based then? And which group were you in?

One of my mates got quite a bit of footage of us in the yellow group, so if you were yellow you're probably in it!

Many photos to follow soon...

I found Snet to be very much like the rest of Norfolk - flat and boring.

Indeed.

Corams is probably one of the best corners on track, double apex and then a nice little squirt into the left hander into the start finish straight. Must say I thought the bombhole was the best corner, loved the way it sort of pulled you through as you hit the apex, surprisingly fast as well.

I was in Pink group Dave, may of been why we didn't see each other out there Laughing. I absolutely loved it, without a doubt my best experience on a bike so far (on the GSX-R that is). Found the Triumph lacking a bit, but then it is a very fast track. Cant beat the feeling of getting a good drive out of Sear and passing 2-3 people on the brakes into the left hander at the end of the Revett straight.

As soon as there's another one there I'll be booked up for it.

Very Happy

If you find Snet interesting, you've not been to Cadwell enough.

Wink

Snet < Cadwell.

Cadwell is a nicer track to ride, but still, if Snett's that bad...
Go faster, then Razz.

(I have been to both a fairly reasonable number of times.)

I've been to Cadwell a few times, however dislike it now since the last session I had has been wiped from my memory due to a bash on the noggin Razz

Could've been worse - at least you didn't fuck yourself up quite as badly as (my racing hero) Kagayama did back in 2003.

Laughing

(Despite him being my hero, he loses points for fucking up Cadwell with that silly chicane before the mountain, it was a far better track before that)
