I found a company on the internet that do very expensive but (IMO) very cool motorcyle jackets. Has anybody had any experience with them, are they to be trusted before i shell out £250 on one?

Thanks for any help,
Ben

Never even heard of them mate. This post isn't going to be much help to be honust. Infact it's probablys unhelpful just wanted to say I would look cool as fuck in this.

https://www.soulrevolver.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/147_yuma_blk_military_motorcycle_jackets_01.jpg

To be honust you could probablys find similar jackets of different makes that cost less.

How are they bike jackets? Other than they're a bit thicker.

They look like they have no armor, so would be almost useless in a crash, just protect you from rash.

There's some nice jackets on there. I wouldn't wear one on a bike due to the lack of armour etc. but they look quite nice.

It is only for a 125, I'm just not feeling having to wear a big bulky bike jacket for the next year or so

A 60 mph crash on a 125 will hurt just as much as a 60 mph crash on a 600.

I'm a hypocrite though, I ride in shorts and plimmys and shit.

I wear a big bulky jacket on a 50, i've worn leather jackets on it a few times, but i just don't feel safe, if i had an accident, even at 30, and fell onto my elbow, thats it fucked. Atleast the armour gives me a chance.

No armor's a terrifying idea for your back too.

I know the risks, I'm just very conscious about how I look. At the end of the day safety comes first I'd just rather have a bike jacket I feel comfortable wearing on and off the bike. Seeing as I'll be riding it to college, work and anywhere else its probably the only jacket I'll wear until I buy a car so I want it to be pretty cool is all

Wear my jacket everyday at college too, and when i go out.

No problem looking good, just get one with armor. Plenty of more casual looking jackets that still have armor in, make you look built too Wink Laughing

Richa do some, Alpinestars do a couple, JoeRocket.

You're looking for Classic style jackets.

Just go to your nearest bike store, might have something. Need to try any jacket on anyway.

No you do not, you think that writing "I know the risks" will save you from them. In the last ten years I have crashed about eight times ( I lose count!) all with impacts of less than 30 mph. Injuries suffered....

broken ribs
broken fingers
dislocated knee
arm ripped open needing 26 stitches at 10mph and wearing full gear.
dislocated hip resulting in destruction of the joint, I am on painkillers for this and the only way to come off them is with a hip replacement.
nerve damage in both hands.
limited neck movement.
Shins with so much scar tissue that a five stitch gash will take three months to heal.

Wear gear.

Just because I don't bike yet doesn't mean I don't know the risks..

You can know the risks of anything before you do it, that is part of your judgement as to whether to do it or not.

I know I may crash. I may be fine, I may die. Trust me I'll do as much as I can to not die but if I want to look good whilst being safe what's the problem? Thats all I'm asking. But as I said safety will come first.

The picture of a double-breasted jacket was not posted by me.

I wouldn't claim to be an expert but they have 1.2mm leather which seems to be fairly standard across biking jackets. As mentioned the lack of armour is the problem. But I don't think they have "fuck all" going for them

so what protection do they have?

have you seen a jacket after a spill? the leather just peels..... then the padding saves your arse

Hi mate do not get those jackets. They are purely for fashion. They would very likely rip open if you were to come off and have no armour.

Get a plain black bike jacket with decent knox armour and a knox back insert. This was my jacket after hitting the ground at around 40mph.

https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/david_m213/DSC00350.jpg?t=1281132798

Notice how thick the leather is. It's also worth noting that at the green coloured bit the leather has been grounded away and is very thin. Who cares what anyone thinks of you? if they are going to judge to then they really aren't worth worrying about anyway.

I love gear and at the time I did wish I had bike trousers and gloves on when I came off to prevent my hands being out of action for a couple of weeks (I was still out fixing the bike the day after, 1 handed though. Laughing )

Now I'm grateful of hitting the road hard without gear. It may actually have been better for my health in the long term. (coming off with a 1 piece suit, back protector, boots etc might not have reinforced anything about my own mortality that I might have learned otherwise).
