Had my first spill this morning – first accident on the bike so lucky it was only a minor one…

I was filtering near Aldgate for people that know the area) and as I was pulling in front of a van he thought he’d ram into my RHS and knocking me over, the bike ending up lying there in front of the van…luckily for me I jumped off the bike sharpish as the bike was falling so didn’t get trapped or stuck under the bike…

The excuse…”sorry I didn’t see you as I was looking at the Sat nav as it was going mad” …nice

Looking over the bike there isn’t too much to report…fortunately it was only a slow speed spill…the list sounds more like someone who dropped their bike after leaving a disc lock on…

- Scratched bar end
- Scratched clutch lever
- Bent gear lever
- Snapped foot peg
- Scratched engine case
- Scuffs on seat unit
- Squished exhaust (where the van hit me)

Exchanged details etc and it was a work van so I can only assume they will be as unhelpful as they can possibly be (their insurers i mean)

Called my insurers (ebike) already – just waiting for them to call me back with the next steps etc in terms of repair/hire bike…

I rode to work after and bike was riding fine…Can I assume just riding as per normal is fine until it gets sorted what they plan to do with my bike? Or should I really be catching the train?

A biker on a tidy ZX750 stopped to check if I was ok which was pretty nice of him…

May be a stupid question too - should I think about changing the small plate back to a legal one and all the other nonsense?

thanks

Can't see how having a small plate would make any difference to the claim myself. Confused

Any witnesses? did you get the number of the guy who stopped to help?

prepare for aggravation and lies from the van driver and his insurers. He will certainly deny saying he was looking at his sat nav (dangerous driving, driving without due care at least).

Go back and have a look if there is any cctv monitoring the area.

You need to start preparing for all this shite sooner rather than later (as I know to my cost).

Glad you're ok though. And good luck with it all.

edited to add.

The next time it happens to me, I'll be laying on the floor and screaming for ambulance and police, wether I'm injured or not.

But yes I think this would probably have been the best plan at the time...but it all happens so fast...

One would like to think things work fairly in this world and then it just dawns on you being a nice guy doesn't really pay off in a situation like this.

Unfortunately the biker who stopped didnt see what happened but was just concerned seeing a bike on the floor.

Also no other witnesses actually saw anything...they only see the bike on the floor in front of the van - i might check the cctv thing on my way home tonight though as you never know.

Given the finishing position of the bike/van it was pretty obvious he crashed into me but seeing the thread last time of that bike under the van, yet the van still claiming to have been hit, you never quite know

I know the area well, where abous and what time? Did you get any witnesses? Otherwise you have to reply on a London van driver to tell the truth he could quite easily say you crashed into him.

There was a guy on here had a van reverse into him and caught it on film the van driver denied it he would have been fuck except for the fact he sent the footage to the insurance company. Personally i think he should have some form or fine or punishment for lying but I can't see that happening.

Another thing I do also, in the van, the car, and on the bike, I have cheap disposable cameras. When my van was written off, (head on smash, truck on the wrong side of the road near Dover). I used every one of the 24 shots. It helped a lot. There were two witnesses to that, they gave conflicting evidence, and the truck driver lied. It was only the pics that got me the payout in the end.
Even so, it took over a year, and a complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman before it was resolved.

When I was forced from the motorway slip road, (without touching the 4x4) I didn't take pics. The lying fuckwit in the 4x4 sent in lots of pics of damage to the side of his vehicle, somehow my bike had smashed the rear quarter, both doors, the side step, and the front wing.
They believed him.

It was about 8.20-8.30am...as you approach aldgate station (on the right) and the bus station (on the left) where 2 lanes from south/north converge to to 4 lanes...right for bishopsgate/moorgate and up leadenhall/fenchurch street

No witnesses that actually saw what happened unfortunately...as we were mixed in other traffic and being london no other cars bother stopping as to them...its a clear road ahead!

The few people i spoke to only see the bike on the floor

But yeah i've read the thread about the van reversing into the bike...which is what got me thinking about as apologetic as the driver was, anything could happen

I'm hoping the fact I was clearly in front of him will help my case a little.

I just hope it gets sorted as I want a mint bike back!

oh...on the camera front...i do have one...but it is sitting at home...besides i don't know how much it would have helped given the situation and being taken out from the side when the camera would have been facing forward...

After being done like a kipper in the past I hold these words of wisdom close, I think it was either Stinkwheel or Ariel that actually quoted it 1st though.....

'Next time someone hits me Im going to lie screaming in the road waiting for the police, ambulance and compensation to arrive'

Thumbs Up
