Think the thread should be in dear auntie BCF rather than general bike chat.

Have you tried washing it in the bath or shower?

Arrow Get some Johnsons baby shampoo.

Arrow Put lid in the bath

Arrow using a shower, Fill the lid with water and drain.

Arrow Rub in Johnsons baby shampoo.

Arrow Rinse in the bath

Arrow repeat until clean.

Oh yes and most importantly, allow to dry naturally. Don't be tempted to hairdryer or radiator it.

Fabreeze?

I've found that if you can get the lining out then using a shampoo on the lining works wonders. I recommend Head and Shoulders, but any mild shampoo should be fine. Thumbs Up

Or turn the helmet upside down and work the shampoo in that way. As long as you rinse it thoroughly it should be fine. Then leave to dry naturally away from any heat sources.

You have to rinse it out. Doesn't matter if that 'might' make something go rusty, right now it's full of milky stuff that's going to go rancid and guff like you wouldn't believe.

Drench the whole thing in the bath, rinse through loads of times. If you've got mild shampoo, use some of that, if not then just keep at it with the warm water. Any vents or anything, make sure you operate them and that the water gets in everywhere.

If you've got somewhere warm to let it dry, like an airing cupboard, do that. Then see what it smells like.

Oh dear. I think that is bad. I think I'd be throwing that lid in the dustbin and buying one that doesn't fall apart.

Milk is the worst thing to get rid off. It goes rank very fast.

Just google remove milk smell for some ideas. If the lid was a cheap or old one personally I'd bin it.

You could try putting it on top of the microwave and then warming a curry up. My lid was getting a bit sweaty, but the nice chicken bhuna aroma masked it for ages.

If you can get hold of some enzyme cleaner for fabrics that will more than likely do it and you shouldn't have to soak the lid in the bath, something like this, granted it's a 5l bottle but it should do the trick
