The cam in my 1936 sprinter was developed by a tuner called Laurence Hartley at the time the bike was built. It felt a fast cam but had a habit of breaking valves and cam followers. I decided to fit the standard Ariel racing cam of the period ( it has the same opening/closing points but smaller tangents and less opening)and take the loss of performance.
Starting her off the line was always fairly easy, I would give her 4000 rpm and dump the clutch whilst opening the throttle hard as she bit. If I got it right the front would lift a little and come back down as I pumped the revs in.
Tried a start on the new cam today.
Obviously it was going to be a bit down on performance with the standard cam in place.
Injuries from flipping the bike include...
Bruised wrist.
Bruised arm.
Bruised knees
Gashed shin.
Sore plums.
I guess the cam has potential!

Next time I will get my weight over the front wheel and fight her down. As I expected the cam to be softer I was initially quite pleased to feel the front lighten under acceleration, when she continued to stand up I became quite alarmed Mr. Green

Broken gear change, I will get it welded in the morning.
Front ( twin leading drum) feels weak, it may have dirt in it ( we ended up in a pile of dirt).

That is what I should have done!
The hip aches and I just found another bruise on my thigh. My right hand has stiffened up a lot where the fingers bent but at least they never broke this time.
