No not the gay type people.

I bought some leathers off ebay last week, described as "immaculate" zips missing and they stink of fag smoke.
After I started a paypal claim the seller dissapeared so it looks like im stuck with them. Other than the stench they are quite nice leathers.

Anyway, so far I have tried:- A gallon of frebreeze, nikwax, hanging them outside for a week and riding 500 miles in them but yet they still ming.

Anyone got any other suggestions for getting the smell of fags from leathers?

Stick with the PayPal dispute. You'll get your money back and he'll get chased by debt collectors. Happy days!

As for the smoke, I'd say hang em outside for as long as you can - fresh air will help.

This method worked for car seats, cant see why it wont with leathers:

Warm water in a spray bottle, with a little bit of baby shampoo. Spray the leathers down then wipe with a soft cloth (dont scrub or it will damage the surface)

Allow to dry, then liberally apply this:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gliptone-GT13-5-Leather-Conditioner-Water-Repellent-/370122971365?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item562d0c58e5

Works wonders and smells a bit like leather (as in classic car leather, not modern PU coated stuff!)

Even acts as a waterproofer. I have used most of the gliptone range and cant rate it highly enough. Apply the GT13 in a warm environment and it will seep intop the leather and take away the smell.

HTH

I'm more interested in how the next owner is supposed to get rid of the stench of drama queen.

had the same trouble with some leather trousers I bought for the mrs. I dont normally buy used clothing to be honest, especially wouldnt buy used leathers which some fooker has sweated his knackers off in. The trousers were dirt cheap and for a 'trial' ride by the mrs.
They stunk, she refused to wear them, we sold them on Rolling Eyes

At the moment its all I can afford, and when its described as "worn once for 30 miles" you would expect it to be like new.

Is it the actual leathers, or the lining?

If the lining's removable I'd whip that out and wash it. Wink

My jacket is only just now starting to not stink of fags, and I gave up over 18 months ago.

I hung it in a cupboard where I had a box of scented soaps: licorice-flavoured soap, so kind of quite funky (not some niffy lavender-scented soaps, or girly shit like that). It doesn't pong of licorice-scented soap, just it doesn't pong so much of fags, really.

Mind you, that was 25 years of smokey bars and rallies Laughing

Its only just coming right now, and even sometimes on a bad day I get a whiff.

There's some stuff on the market that will get pretty much any smell out of pretty much any fabric, including leather. I can't remember what it's called but I was told about it by a mini cab driver once after one of my friends kids had an "accident" in the back of a car. Those guys often get drunks puking up in the back seat of their cabs and they need to get the pong out PDQ or they can't earn so they know the best stuff. Ask a few cabbies, or pop into the local cab office and you'll get the name eventually.

This lot seem to rave about putting it in a low tumble dryer spin with tennis balls and "dryer sheets", whatever they are.

Dry clean it. I doubt it will cost more than £20 they won't smell at all then.
