So as title says...

Going slowly around a corner and went over something slippy, thinking it was because it was hot yesterday and rainy today. The back end just went and before I knew2 it I was down.

So needing advice, only damage is the front brake lever, the footpeg/bar is bent and the clocks have shifted a little. And then there's scratches over the exhaust and other bits.

So what do I do? should I order parts and get it fixed and not tell them or do I fess up? (and probably pay out of my arse for it)

Just tell em and pay the excess. Exhaust, footpeg, panels, clocks all sound like they'll add up to a bucktload more than the normal excess...

How much excess did you agree to in the hire agreement?

Insurance will cover it, surely. Don't try to cover it up - guaranteed to backfire.

Read the paper work see what you are liable for, chances are you are liable for a excess of some kind.

Will I be charged that or just the damage?

Yup hire cars have a big excess on the policy. Tell them you will pay for the damage and hope that they don't charge you for the time the bike is out of action.

Hi

Yes, check the agreement carefully. However those parts new could cost a pretty large amount. What bike is it?

All the best

Its a Yamaha YBR 125

I imagine they will be buying official parts, so guessing it will be costing me a fair bit

If you gave your card details to the hire company then now would be a good time to call your bank because I think you've lost your card. Wink

It won't change the amount of money you're liable for but it will mean that they can't just take the money from your card.

You need to read through the paperwork to find out what the excess is. Fixing it up and not telling them would be expensive.

Oh if it was so simple..

They will have run a pre authorision, and the debit will still come through. Just that the bank will manually process it over.

If the bank did bounce the payment, you are leaving yourself wide open to loud knocks on your door and a even bigger bill, thanks to the debt collectors cut....
Never mind a nasty black mark should you require ins in the future.

Hope the Op took out the damage waiver.

Nope have to be over 21 to take that out Sad

I'm going to have a word with the guy who's dealing with my claim, he seems a reasonable guy and I'm going to say to him that I must of hit some diesel on the road and I will pay the costs and hopefully be left at that... hopefully Neutral

Double check you didn't pay the extra for "insurance insurance" Smile

Basically lowers the excess to a more reasonable cost.

They live on warranty (at least any leased cars do) and so yes, expect OEM parts with dealership priced labour.

Yeah i'm familar with them.
A nightmare to deal with lol

Fortunately the YBR parts are cheap.

The lever is about a tenner.
The clockhousing is 13-15 quid
and the gear/brake is 20quid.

Really? I've so far found them easy to deal with, apart from they ring at such inappropriate times Rolling Eyes

And I've looked into parts already, just hoping they aren't going to rape me over any thing else, but being an insurance company thing I'm sure they will

It's only c£60 for an official CG125 exhaust (and that's at Honda's amusing parts prices), so hopefully the OP will be lucky and they won't bend him over for the labour too badly, and he may have a little change from his £500.

Well looking through some documents the exhaust was already scratched up before I got it, so may be able to get away with that and if not then Wemoto offer them for 44 quid or so...

They will no doubt get new parts and will also rip the piss.

I would get as many second hand parts off of ebay and fit them yourself to avoid as much new parts and labour charges.

sell the old exhaust and any other useable parts once you know that nothing is coming back to you.

Oh.

Return the bike and pay the excess (I expect it to be very expensive), drop BLD, then go to a proper firm of solicitors rather than any claims management company. You'll get more money if you go to proper solicitors.

I have dealt with BLD several times, as long as it doesn't look to bad, you should be okay. once the van driver that picks it up checks it over and signs it off you are home free replace the parts you can on the cheap then blag the rest. I managed them not to see small exhaust scratches on a bandit I had, (cliped a traffic island in london) and explain away some scratches (no idea how they got there wasn't me)

Then you need to order the replacement parts quickly, once they have paid out you can blag a weeks extra hire but no more. Replace anything that is actually broken light cosmetic stuff to blag.
