I'm booked on a Bikesafe course in October, and one of the stipulations is "must wear suitable clothing". Although I've been unemployed for a while now, I'm yet to own a trackie, so I guess I won't be turning up like that Smile

I'll wear my normal lid/jacket/boots/gloves affair, but if I'm going to be turned away for wearing jeans I better find something else, as I don't fit my leather trousers and I find my textiles uncomfortable.

Anyone done one in jeans? Or do they grudgingly let you continue after browbeating you whilst showing pictures of kittens in tracksuits with roadrash?

They will most likely instruct you on the benefits of 'proper' bike wear. Only legal thing is a helmet.

The whole point of the course is to attempt to correct the error of your ways, your just giving them something to work on!

I suppose it depends on how anal your observer is, mine was a serving Police instructor and he turned up in black jeans, leather jacket and piss pot helmet.

I've heard (on BCF I think) of one observer who wasn't going to assess one attendee until he wore hi-viz!

As ours was broken up over two weekends we had the opportunity to discuss these things the weekend before the ride, if you don't have that luxury it might be worth giving the co-ordinator a ring.

Hope you get something from it and most of all enjoy it. Thumbs Up

I did it in my textiles, boots and jeans. I felt underdressed since a few of them was wearing full suits or goretex. To be honest, you'll be fine in "commuting kit". If you don't have bike boots, work boots will suffice too. But in short, I wore jeans and wasn't frowned upon. I had some bloke called Brady Woods and had a 1 to 1 because I had the slowest bike and was also on L's. This was 5 years ago mind.

The law states 'helmet'. Nothing else. You will be fine in jeans. I wouldn't worry about it, it's how you ride that matters in the end. Thumbs Up

How come you are putting on weight while unemployed ?
Dont the state pay you just enough to feed yourself and get by ?

I have done 2 Bikesafe days (with work) ... and each time there were people wearing jeans.

I did the Bikesafe down here in Dorset and everyone in the group I was in wore the full leathers (it was a hot day) but the guy taking us was really practical and very helpful. I doubt very much that I would have been turned away for wearing jeans, but I'm sure he would have given some helpful advice as to what would be more ideal.

I actually had a dark visor, loud can and small numberplate - all technically not permitted and I wasn't turned away. He reckoned being able to see in the bright sunlight was important, but made sure I was aware to change the visor at night! He could read the numberplate at the specified distance, so had no issue with that and commented that the can sounded lovely!

Like all areas of life (BCF even Shifty ) some folk are decent and normal others are d1cks - let's hope you have the former and enjoy your rideout - personally I found it to be a very positive experience! Thumbs Up
