Personal unusual behaviour

Whether it be OCD or ADHD based behaviour, whatever....what is it you do that really is something you do and you alone. Unusually this conversation on mass leads to people realising we all do similar things....I’m just interested in this sort of thing!

I have an annoying habit of going to someone’s house, it doesn’t matter if I know them or not. I’ll pick up something that looks like it can be dismantled, I’ll dismantle it and put it back together, usually repeating it until my missus tells me to stop it or slaps me.

I have to sleep on the bed furthest from the door, facing the edge, this way, if any intruder comes to the bedroom door I have the most time available to sort myself out and take them out. I think i imagined this when i was a kid and since then I’ve stuck to that.
On a side note, I have a pillow system. I have to have one thick pillow and one about half the thickness on top, otherwise I can’t sleep for shit.

I smoke, therefore I drink. But I’m lazy with it, for some reason I always drink just enough of whatever it is and then leave about an inch of the drink in the bottom of the glass. This then means I make myself go for sometime without getting another drink, I get really thirsty at some point and when I pick up the glass I find I left the inch of liquid in the bottom. I drink that and won’t get another unless i really need to. Usually because I’m gaming.

I vacuum a lot, i mean i vacuum most days because I see 3 or 4 bits of something on the carpet and then have to blitz the place...I can’t stand crap on my floor and i love the feeling i get when i hear all the little bits flying around inside the filth eating machine OM NOM NOM.

I apologise to inanimate objects. For example, if I pick up a fork from the cutlery drawer, then decide to choose a different one, I feel sorry for the one I first selected as it was so close to fulfilling forkdom, only to have it snatched away at the last moment.

Since the word "anthropomorphism" has been around a while, I'm guessing I may not be the only one who does it though.

I pull out my hair and eat it.

Thankfully mine is quite mild and i don't get the horrendous bald patches of severe sufferers. It's mostly facial hair that i get the urge to pull, so i deliberately never grow beards etc as the temptation to pull it out is just too overwhelming. However, i do get the odd small bald patches in my eyebrows and sideburns when i've found some 'interesting' hairs in there.

Suspect we all have little things like that.

I hate to leave light switches set differently. For example at the bottom of the stairs is a double switch for the light at the bottom and for the light at the top, while at the top of the stairs there is a single switch just for the light at the top. Going to bed, if the lights have been switched on downstairs I will turn them both off downstairs and walk up in the dark rather than leave the switches not matching. Or go upstairs and turn the light off using that switch, then downstairs to use both switches (turning upstairs back on and downstairs off) before going back up and turning the upstairs light off.

Something about the switches not being the same way round that bugs me.

Me in my group of friends/relatives/fb friends suffers this, but have heard of others that do also.

It can be quite fucking annoying for other people, but I rarely notice when I'm doing it, it's completely automated.

I also have RLS, as does one of my sisters. Cocodamol helps, but I try not to use it too often as you can build up a tolerance to it. Since 7-10% of the population have it and it's involuntary, it's not really an unusual behaviour.

I talk to myself and I'm quite obsessive about not wasting water. I'm also obsessive about time & motion, I constantly calculate the most efficient way to get a series of tasks done, even something as simple as fetching a cup from the front room to make some tea (involves getting the cup, putting water in the kettle etc), I calculate everything on the fly and attempt the least amount of effort/motion and time possible. I find it very satisfying when I get something bang-on and can be quite annoyed if I screw it up.

I can't think of anything particularly outlandish, I think mine of pretty standard OCD stuff. Cutlery should not be mixed in a draw and must face the same way. Glasses should be in order in the cupboard, smallest to largest.

I do arrange ornaments, placemats, stuff in peoples houses to ensure symmetry.

Just remembered, I count a lot. No idea why but I count just about anything when I'm distracted.

I have colour oriented OCD habits in that all my clothes are grouped by colour and type in my wardrobes and drawers. The other thing I have to do is match pegs on the washing line - a pair of socks must have the same peg type and colour for each sock and anything needing more than one peg must have matching pegs!

I get RLS as well but thankfully only when I'm tired and it's not very nice at all. I have been known to chatter to inanimate objects but it's normally live stuff like plants, insects or animals which tbh I think is perfectly normal!!

I have a fixation with my belly button, when I'm thinking or stressed my finger will twist around in my belly button. As far as I know its something I've always done.

The gf says I'm obsessed with my toenails too, I cut them down to nothing most of the time, she thinks it must be something I started as a child and over the years its something I now have to do to prevent them from becoming ingrown

If sat waiting for something...e.g waiting room I'll find objects that are square and trace the edges with my eyes.

I refuse to get 'overtaken' on my walk into work. Been walking it for 18 months now and only one person so far has overtaken me, I didn't notice at the time but when I realised I powerwalk chased him down. He was very tall though so my calves were burning by the time I got to work, but I arrived triumphant.

Girls in the office were really impressed .

Talk to myself, argue with myself as if I have the outer, audible voice as my one personality, and my inner voice is the other....imagine posting under one username on BCF, then countering that arguement under another and carrying on like that....I do that out loud on my own.

Restless legs, the missus often hits me at the cinema because I don't realise I'm making the whole row shake whilst doing it, doesn't usually bother me when it comes to sleeping, though strangely I've felt a uncontrollable urge to bend it at the knee a few times the past few weeks.

Always shower in a particular order - head, chest, armpits, back, sack, legs (left leg first!) and butt crack, followed by a couple of twirls to make sure all shower gel is washed off lol.

There are probably more, but because they are so automatic, they probably don't stand out to me as much anymore haha.

I also do the counting thing. I count anything.

When walking down the street I will try and walk with my feet not crossing lines in the floor e.g. cracks or edges of paving slabs and I imagine lines coming off the edge of buildings and can't cread on them.

I have a bit of restless leg syndrome I think. I don't like not moving my legs and when I do it is relief.

Always have to use even numbers for things like volume on the TV/Radio/Laptop - I've tried leaving them on odd numbers, but inevitably I have to go back and change to evens before I can rest!
