It's that time again. Every couple of years or so an MP decides to get some press coverage by suggesting that Britain should fall into line with Continental Europe and maintain British Summertime all year long. Personally I think that it's a good idea but, even though The Prime Minister is making cooing noises, I expect that this proposal will go the same way as it's predecessors...........nowhere.
What do you think?

Sticking on BST would make it darker in the mornings when no one gives a fuck, and lighter in the afternoon when people who aren't farmers are actually doing stuff.

Sounds good to me, I don't really enjoy going to work in the dark, working indoors for 8 hours, then coming home in the dark as well, shame they'll spread their butt cheeks for the scots though or it might have a chance of happening.

I'd rather scrap BST and keep GMT all year, it's annoying when you're trying to get to sleep and it's still light enough to read a book.

quite happy to abandon the stupid clock changing, but if we're doing it we should standardise on GMT, I Want my fricking hour back Mad

Also quite happy to be standardised with Europe, provided they move themselves off their lazy disorganised European time zones and move to GMT we can all be happy.

If we aren't going to change I also think we should stick with GMT, afterall we are in that timezone.

Last time I looked farmers work when they want, not to what the clock says....

Back to GMT and leave it there.

If people want to start work in the light or finsh in the light change their working hours, not mess around with the clocks.

None of the its safer to change the clocks cut any ice.....

Well it's not as simple as that is it?

For example, even though most supermarkets are open 24 hours, there are still over half that open at 8am. So when winter comes I will be leaving in the dark and coming home in the dark when I finish at 4ish.

If you keep the clocks at BST, it will then mean that for a lot of working people they will be driving in semi-daylight instead of darkness and there have been countless studies made which have proven that driving in the dark in the evening is must more dangerous than driving in the dark mornings. I mean this is obvious, when you have just woken up, you are much more alert, so driving in the dark isn't that much of an issue. After working 8-10 hours and then operating a vehicle in the dark will be succeptable to lapses in concentration.

I don't get the argument that Scotland must change the clocks with us because we are the United Kingdom. You don't see the whole of the USA on the same timezone do you?

Given that many people seen to drive in a zombie state in the morning..
ie, they get up and go straight out without taking the time to have a meal/drink and wake up properly.
You do have to wonder about these studies.
Also do these studies take into account the increase of road traffic in the afternoons compared to mornings.

We all know statistics can be made to read anyway you like.

End of the day now, with so many people working shifts. Schools starting at after 09:00 and finishing at 15:30. A lot of the argument's are now pointless.
Not changing the clocks would save millions of £ each year. Something the current government seem quite keen on Thumbs Up
