I have a 2002 XT600E that is a European import.

I have all the previous M.O.T's and they all passed with no Advisories.
This year when I took it for it's M.O.T (my first with this bike) it passed but I was given an advisory on the headlight because it flicks up to the wrong side.

The tester put some tape over part of the light which I still have on there.
It is a perfectly good light, no damage but to buy a new headlight for the Uk will cost £303.50 which I think is ridiculous.
I have not found any on ebay.

So I can either leave it as it is or buy a new headlight unit.

I like the twin headlight Alien unit which comes with the plastic cowling for £18 and a similar one for £36 but from emailing a few companies it appears these are not road legal and are for enduro bikes. I assume there is no side, main and high beam.

So does anyone know of a road legal twin headlight unit that will fit my bike? I like the twin rather than single light.

The ones you linked to are absolutely terrible lights - basically a couple of low voltage house spot lights stuck in a bit of plastic! You can get single bulb road legal ones for around £30 or so, but again probably not as good as the stock one on your bike.
You can get more expensive twin unit ones that work better and are road legal.

I'm pretty sure you can make these road legal; you get lots of light and they're in a twin configuration Razz...

Thanks for the replies.

Yes the light I have is pretty good so it would be daft to replace it with a shite one.
I did not know those I posted were that bad.

I did find some dual road legal lights for £47 but without a cowl which I would like to have.

I did find an Acerbis single light with cowl on ebay which is road legal so I assume it has, side, main and high beams,

The road legal bit is more the beam pattern of the lights - that there is a definite dip and high beam - while the others are either the same, or a wide and narrow, rather than following the specific dip pattern required.

But yes, I have that one and it has dip, high and a sidelight. Still not an amazing light and your stock one is probably better, but I stick them on bikes to pass MOT at least (one on my zx9 at the moment still, I believe).

Why not just buy a reflector and stick it in your headlight so it directs the beam to the left instead of right?

Or just keep it taped up like he's done for you.
I wouldn't want to waste a load of cash on a complete new headlight unit if it can be fixed simpler.

Here is a pic of the tape the tester stuck on the light.

I'm surprised it is on the left side of the light if the idea is to stop the light kicking up to the right and dazzling oncoming road users.

It's not a problem to keep it taped up, just looks a bit of a bodge.
Not sure if it might be a reason for poilice to pull me over if they think the light might be cracked.
Don't think the tester would be too impressed if I took it for next years M.O.T still taped up either.

twosock, have you ever used a stick on reflector inside a headlight?

its the reflector inside on the left that bounces light to the right Very Happy
spend 20quid on a new light,
far better option that trying to replace it with an inferior substitute,
the xt600 style suits the bike as well

Buy secondhand then Wink.

(Ok, don't know if that's the exact model to fit, but suspect you could find one ok.)

Thanks G, I have e-mailed him to ask if it's a UK or the rest of Europe headlight.

I wonder if I could turn my existing headlight round 180 degrees, maybe it is possible to fix it in the bracket that way round.

Turning it round would probably make it an anti-dip - you need a mirror image I would presume.

There were a few others on ebay too.

There are a few on ebay and I nearly ordered one but have found out from a couple of people that the lights from the 3AJ and older models of XT600 do not fit onto the 4PT.

The newer 4PT has 2 lugs on the bottom for fixing and adjusting the direction of the headlight whereas the older versions do not.

So I will either have to leave the tape on or periodically look to see if someone is breaking a 4PT.
