Hi, Quick topic.
Does anyone know of someone who has had a ticket by one of these cameras.
I know as long as they are facing forwards, as Bikers they cant get us, but even people in cars dont stick to the speed indicator??

I go through a lot of them on regular trips to Lincs and most everyone sticks to the limit on the stretches.

I do know someone that got a ticket in a car - had wondered if they really worked myself.
Further wonder if most of the cars you do see going fast are stolen, driven by foreigners, etc?

wellw hen i went to london 2 weeks ago today i went throught some doing 80+ when the signs where flashing 40/50 .

and no ticket
forward facing how do they get your plate ??

i know how they work

they time from camera to camera and know that at x speed it should take y amount of time. but if there is no bumberplate for the first camera to register then there is nothing to make a start on the stop watch effect?

Hi

Guy at work got caught by an average speed camera on the motorway (roadworks I think). Backed off to about 55 but not quick enough.

All the best

There are new rear facing average speed cameras coming out. Including that nasty bastard known as speed spike that is capable of tracking your speed over a network of them.

Are they still going to bother with these in light of budget cuts?

Can anyone tell if if all the average speed camaeras that were put up for roadworks and the speed reduced to 50mph, have been removed now that the road works have gone, or the speed increased back to 70?

They're pretty good at removing them when they've finished the roadworks. They've been gradually snaking a set down the M3 as they do some work round our way and even if they leave the cameras up temporarily when they remove the 50 limit they're all signposted "camera not in use".

There's a set where the M3 goes down to one lane where it meets the M25 coming out of London which I think are permanent now though.

And yeah - I know a couple of people who got caught by the set on the A316 around Hanworth a year or two ago... only in cars though.

Apologies for thread hijacking but its kind of the same subject. Has anyone ever seen the speed camera's flash on the M42. I've seen cars zoom through at way over the limits but there isnt a flash

I used to think this, I wasn't aware that a dual carriageway with a central reservation, and a national speed limit sign is 70MPH (unless otherwise stated) not 60MPH as I had thought.

My dad got a ticket from the ones on the m6 near birmingham (50 mph) in his truck. Loads of people speed through them and when they get to the cameras put there breaks on... Don't see the point myself.

If it's variable speed limit - to get to their destination faster, maybe? Smile

50mph signs everywhere so i'm not sure if its variable.. Alot of people tend to sit at 50 but at the same time so many people jsut ignore it and break when the camera comes.

Most permanent cameras on motorways aren't average speed ones, they're just Gatsos with variable triggers. So it's often safe (licence-retention-wise at least) to nail it between cameras and brake at the last moment. In fact, most of the gantries don't even have cameras on them - just a subset - but you can't see which until you've been through.

The head-on ones at roadworks are average speed check ones though. So don't nail it between them.

Just to add, if the roadworks have not started or have finished, the cameras usually have signs on them saying "Camera Not In Use". I'd guess however that if there is no sign, there is a possibility that they are still active.

Trick used to be that you could see the cameras on the gantry on the motorway in the opposite direction to know which gantries have them in the direction you are going.

However they have got wise to that as the new variable profit margin cameras on the M6 around the M42 junction are not on the same gantries in each direction.

All the best
