My 'ere colleague has just gone in a mard with me regarding petrol.

I told her I filled up my car with £3.33 this morning to get to work and she said that they shouldn't have let me buy that little because there is a minimum amount you can buy.

Is she talking out of her ass? Surely I could buy £0.01p worth of petrol if I really wanted to?

I think most of them say there's a minimum delivery of 2 litres. Which is £1.60 roughly.

I regularly go into a station, and fill up with less than £1 (for my bro's ped). Never had any problems.

Done it with my bike as well, and have even put less that £1.50 in my car... Hey, im a skankey student...

If they ever complained, they would get this; Middle Finger Middle Finger .

I wish it only cost me a few quid to get to work, my weekly petrol amount stands at £30 at the moment!

That's not including fun on the bike or weekend stuff either!

£30 a week? Christ! That's harsh Sad

I only do 22 miles a day. A full tank used to last me 400 miles but since I had a service and MOT it will only do 300. Very fishy!

Hmm proved me wrong then. Smile It usually says minimum 2 litre delivery when I've noticed. I'll check next time I visit other garages. I once put £2.50 in my bike when I was struggling to get home and it's all I had on me. And I thought that was bad...

TBH i have heard of the "limit". Maybey it could be are area thing. In in-town petrol stations, ive never had any problem getting sub £1 for my ped. Ped only gets used in town, and on single carrigeways.

Maybey for a service station on the motorway, for example, it may be different...

As i said i've done it loads of tiimes (in different stations)... No problem. I would be really annoyed if they tried to impose the "rule" on me...

Tell me about it, no company car and no petrol expenses either!

Your car performs worse after a service and MOT??? Very strange Thinking

I thought it was odd when my work mate said that there's a minimum...it's that whole thing about being told how much you have to spend, how you spend it and when. I remember they abolished a minimum top up thing on mobiles a couple of years ago because of that reason.

I'd like to get told I need to put more fuel in just to see how they'd go about telling me..."sorry love, you need to spend more than £1, you have to put at least X amount in"

Right then, arrest me or take the petrol out yourself! Razz Middle Finger

I might try it later!

I regularly fill my g/f's car with £2 of petrol just to get to somewhere its cheaper!

I recall seeing signs that say you must put in a minimum of £2 of petrol. However i think this is if you are paying on a card coz the bank charge the company for an ammount that small. Atleast thats what i was told ages ago.

I once paid for £4 of petrol in 1 and 2p's Very Happy Very Happy.
Admitadly i had pre-counted them and there was actually £4 worth.
I was poorer then!

I've regularly gone into petrol stations that have 'minimum delivery xxx' posted up on the wall and put less than that in. To those people, money is money - however small. Smile

rarly have to fill up with small amounts of money, it is one of those burdens of having a ped. Sometimes it is a bit embarrassing paying for £2 of fuel with a Debit Card, I never carry cash. Razz

I usually put in between £9-10 every two or three days depending on what I'm doing. I fill up at around 100-110 miles, mainly because of the location of petrol stations along my commute.

I've never had it over 125ish miles without re-filling, admittedly I've never seen the warning light lit on this bike and I'm probably not likely to try it either. I couldn't cope with the shame of calling someone out because I ran out of petrol. Shocked

My bike takes £12. I don't have a trip switch so I usually just wait till I'm on reserve then fill up next time I get the chance.

I think that they make exceptions on the rule especially for bikes and moped ... and students?? I don't think that many business people would look a bit strange!

I am currently using about £25pw, doing about 320 miles and my tank only takes for about 300 miles ... so tend to do what Zero-G does ... fill in with a fiver in the local petrol station as I know that once a week I go near to a supermarket where it is cheaper to fill up!

I believe the minimum amount sign is because the measuring gear in the pump is not very accurate for small quantities. So you might not get what you think you are getting, which would mean the retailer getting big grief from Trading Standards for selling short measures.

The limits for credit cards are normally higher than £2, normally £5 or £10 (or an extra charge to cover how much the garage get billed).

All the best
