Just had my plans altered with regards holidays, so I now have a week off but can only do day out rides instead of the planned ride and see where I end up for the night.
Just need inspiration from what I normally do.

I live in the Hinterland, well, just by where the M6 meets the M62 M62 meets the M57 or the east lancs meets the M58 and not far from the M56. so as you can see I have easy access to mile munching fun.

I was thinking of keeping the distances down to under 500 miles in a day round trip. Destination needs to be cheap as money will be spent on fuel. Meals tend to be a Mars bar and a Coke when I'm out.
So looking for destinations to look out for...... Something different.

Wales. Everyday.

There's so many lush roads and loads of nice seaside towns if you go by the coast.

I know Wales is one place, but where? Like I said I have been to the usual places just want something new or different. Or even just a road.
I was thinking of doing the lands end -JoG thing and go to the two St Ives in the country just to say I've done it, before my plans were changed. These would have been done in a three day stint.
I'm going to do a lap of Anglesey on one day, just the other six I need to sort.

The A39 has some pretty bloody AWESOME corners in it and fantastic scenery when it gets near the coast.

I've only ever driven a car as far as Padstow but ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT for driving.

Widemouth Bay has absolutely beautiful sunsets and there's an awesome little restaurant on the cliff face there which has cheap rooms if you want to stay the night.

Elements

Great food, comfy clean and tidy rooms. I practically lived out of the place for 18 months. Totally recommend it for a weekend away, or just a long jaunt down there and back (doable for me in the SW but probably a bit of a mission for you).

If those rooms are too pricey. The Brendon Arms in Bude (2min drive from widemouth) has rooms above the pub for £35 a night incl Breakfast and is a bit more lively as its near the centre of town.

I was thinking of this, but it's the Merseyside to JoG to lands End and back to Merseyside.

I'm going to pop down to St Ives for a pasty and an icecream on one of the days.

Wales, Lakes, Grimbsy are big places. Specifics like the Anglesey Race track are the sort of idea. Although have been there many times.

looking for different haunts or reminded of places I haven't been to for a while.

Even sections of roads that I haven't been on yet would be something.

This site might help which roads to take.
As for the destination ....dunno. I'm of the mindset that the destination is secondary to the ride. So i often end up getting lost on purpose. Thumbs Up

Think it stems from when i was 18 and working in Gloucestershire. Used to fill up the Chevette and drive and drive etc. Serendipity.

Here's one of my favourite routes when I have a day free to play in Wales:

Head down the A49 to Whitchurch. Take the A525 then A495 to Ellesmere. B5068 to St Martins, B5069 to Overton. A539 to Llangollen, A542 (Horeshoe Pass). Stop at the Ponderosa for a brew and/or sandwich. A525 Nant-y-Garth Pass to Ruthin, then stay on it to Denbigh. A543 across Denbigh Moor to Pentrefoleas. Alternatively the B4501 across the Moor to the A5. B5105 back to Ruthin, then UP the A525 Nant-y-Garth Pass cos it's a cracking road in both directions! A5104 to Corwen then A494 back past Ruthin (again), on to Mold and all the way back to the A55 just outside Queensferry. Boring bit home. Thumbs Up

Probably be somewhere between 250-300 miles for you I reckon. Should keep you busy for several hours!

If you wanted to extend it and go to the seaside for chips & ice-cream turn off the A494 Ruthin to Mold section at the B5429 and follow it all the way down to Rhyl, then either follow the coast road A548 back to Queensferry or alternatively go the other way to Abergele then A548 B5381 A541 back to Mold.
