Sat Nav?

Don't know that much about it as I have never used it on a bike.

what do you guys use and how much are they?

Has anyone got the Garmin Dakota 20?

It takes 'GB Discoverer' maps that are OS maps and looks like it does everything wanted of an offroad GPS system.

I've got a Garmin Oregon 200 which is very similar to the dakota 20, use it for green laning and normal satnav duties in car and bike. If you have any questions just ask.

Hand held type for greenlaning.

The Road Angel 7000 Adventurer is a popular choice ... and to be honest, I can't really fault it for laning* ...

*as a car sat nav it is pants though ... the GUI/menu system, is really poor ... Thumbs Down

Yep, you can get OS maps and it is standard sat-nav size screen, so much more viewing area than a hand-held GPS with maps on it Thumbs Up

Hi sorry about the latish reply, for maps i am using garmin topo maps which are average in quality if i am honest, i use the complete european road map in country sized segements for road routing. You can get various os maps for them in 1:50k or 1:25k scale, these are mainly divided into packs for national parks. Roughly retailing at £100 a pack i believe, but can be sourced other ways if you require.

Routing on road is easy and efficient just never chose avoid highways as it can make a journey much longer as discovered last year in ireland (A roads are highways!). As far as use for offroad goes it's brilliant, i planned all routes using memory map, convert and upload them to the gps it then provides an overlay on the map to follow. Provided you take the time to mark the route accurately it's a simple thing to follow when out on the trail and haven't managed to be lost yet. . .
