Rolling Stoppie Advice - Where am i going wrong?

Hi Guys,

Hoping you can give me a few pointers. After picking up my CBR600F (1999 carbed) ive been praticing my stoppies while waiting for my cage etc. A video of how I'm getting on is here:

I can get the stoppie moving but getting decent distance seems hard. Im running quite a hard setup with the front forks and about 18psi in the front tyre. Also sometimes the rear tends to drift to the right while in the air and i cant work out if its my body position or the bike. Should i be out the seat more??

ANY feedback or pointers would be great as to how i can improve!?!

Loks pretty good to me. Perhaps just be a tad harder on the brake at the beginning to bring the back up more quickly....

To go further wouldn't you need to go faster before starting the stoppie therefore braking for longer?

Disclaimer: I ride a early eighties bike with brakes that barely allow me to stop so am only speculating on the speed thing.

Looked ok to me; hold on to it a little bit longer maybe and as above, start faster so you've got more room to play with.
Looks like you had ok height at the end, bit more practice and as above, you should get it up to that height quicker.

Pro stunters I believe will use a steering damper to keep it straight on really long distance ones, one handed* etc, but generally it's not too bad and you can do it with your body to some degree. - only time I've crashed from a stoppie was while racing and I tried to scrub off a bit too much speed mid corner (not too far off from knee-down and the front tyre still had grip to stoppie!... landed rather badly crossed up as you might expect and chucked me off.)

* Oh and one handed isn't that hard, just do remember you REALLY have to grip with your knees!

Its all about confidence i think, when i pulled them on my 50 it was pure idiot like behaviour and i almost flipped twice, going off stunt vids its just like a wheelie in the way your initial take off helps out with the rest of your trick.
For a longer stoppie your first bites gotta be nice and firm then when its up feather the brake just like a wheelie.
It looks like your doing what anyone would do (including myself) in panicing and letting go.

Hello!

Currently learning to roll well myself atm.

I'll get some video footage today.

Start off getting comfortable PLOUGHING stoppies.

Come in alot hotter, and just ease the brake on.
Roll low but further.

You wanna get all the braking done almost right away.

Grip the tank with your knee's too.
Stops the tail drifting a little.

Stationary stoppies is a quick way to flip your bike.

Rolling is MUCH safer.

You were doing ok in that video but need something a little clearer if i'm honest!

Mine had an issue with the visor mech being too.... light to move?

They have resolved this now.

No, you apply the front brake and the back end comes up and you stop. So the bike is stood still with the rear in the air, rather than the front continuing to roll along.

I guess you just keep braking until you stop rather than braking hard and then letting go slightly?

But I have no idea.

Stationary stoppie is an easy way to flip your bike.


Seen it done, it's pretty funny, roll to a stop and jam the front brake as hard as they can at 10mph.

hmmm, getting decent 11 oclock height and about 15ft rolling = win

Going too high and over the front = fail* !

only 15ft with the tail that tall?

I think you are being too harsh on the brake mate.

I can roll further than 15ft just ploughing with the tail section no where NEAR head height.
