Bike's okay, didn't drop it, rolled to a stop just outside my mates house which was lucky because it was were I intended to go.

But yeah, I need a new chain, money is very tight at the moment, budget is probably £130 max.

I ride a 1999 Suzuki GSX-R600.

Can anyone recommend a brand or even specific chain? Links would be greatly appreciated, although ordering from the internet isn't great because I can live without the bike before Thursday but I need the bike running on Thursday. Results day.

All help greatly appreciated, Karma will be distributed accordingly.

Pics will be posted shortly... Thumbs Up ...

I got similar (20quid cheaper) for my CBR, quality is great.

Only had the bike a week, chain was fine and correctly lubed etc...

It's coming up to a year and a half years old, but I'm not sure what a chain lifetime is, must have of been on for just above as 1,000 miles.

Only around 100 miles on it since bought.

Thumbs Up

And no, I don't know how to pull wheelies or stoppies, and haven't tried. Laughing

How many miles has the bike done.... A chain should still be good for that age, unless its got serious milage on it. Talking 10K plus.
Many people get between 10 & 20K out of a chain.

Sounds to me like its been abused by its previous owner.... Wonder what the rest of the bike is like Embarassed

I'd personally expect 10-15K out of a chain and sprockets. People may get a lot more, but when that thing is spinning up so close to my leg (with a possibility of snapping and taking my leg with it) I tend to err on the side of caution.

14k miles on the clock, doubt the previous did much stunting, he did his shoulder in a car accident making it putting it away for a while, but you can never tell, the rest of the bike is in very good nick.

The previous chain was a

SUZUKI GSX-R600 95-99 DID X-RING CHAIN

if that helps anyone.

really dunno how that chain could of snapped after such a shorr period of time, are you sure it didnt fail at the joining link/riveted one, maybe it was not done properly. If it was there then you can just put it back on with a new link!

DID X-Rings are probably the way to go and last quite some time. From a set of X-rings, you can get about 20-40k miles depending on lubrication and maintenance.

Other brands which I'd go for are Tsubakki and AFAM. I've currently got a set of regina X-rings on mine.

I'd stay away from cheap brands like SSS or Iris. I've had both of them on previous bikes (Iris on bikes that I've recently purchased, presumably because the seller wanted to put fresh C&S on the bike before selling), and they had tight spots within 3-5k miles. This was WITH having a chain oiler and correct maintenance.

30 minutes after selling my old ZX9 I received a phone call from the new owner who was moaning that the chain snapped on his way back to his place.

I was shocked and horrified. A few hours earlier I was going flat out in top gear (indicated 176) on the A249 in jacket, jeans and trainers... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Mind you that bike lived outside and I didn't care for the chain too well. Nowadays I smother them in old engine oil and expect to get 30,000 miles out of them on the 600. I always get DID chains and OE sprockets - seem to work best for me.
