Nissan Land Glider

https://www.fuglyrides.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Nissan_Land_Glider_Concept_Front.jpg

Computer controlled tilting system results in good corner stability despite it's narrow width. It's small size and narrow wheels make it a more efficient electric car, as well as making parking easy and getting through city traffic easier. It charges magnetically using magnets in parking places. It's basically more bike than car, with the benefit of weather protection, less vulnerability to ice & salt and costs about 50p to charge.

I don't think its the ultimate solution just yet, but i think its a big step int he right direction. More lean, more power and better looks and i'd possibly buy one!

Can't seeing it being good round twisty country rounds to be honest.
I wonder what the specifications are?
Also the whole charging system...Where would you get the magnets to charge the thing?

Wonder if it would drift haha.

I'd Love to drive one. Strangely i really like the looks, very futuristic & the dash board looks like something off a space ship. Wouldn't fancy it with side winds but looks fun.

Can't remember the film where they had similar small cars (Demolition Man?)

Looks about as well handling as most bikes & small cars. In theory 4 wheels can give more grip and allow for higher corner speeds than on a bike. Direction changes don't look super fast, but i guess thats something that could be tweeked.

The magnets in the floor method of charging isn't realistic at all at the moment, but then it is just a concept car. The fact that they have the technology working to do that could make petrol stations and problems with storing hydrogen obsolete. Instead you just park it up in a special bay, pay for the parking at the meter and get your car charged up at the same time. You could probably get a charging system installed at home too. Sounds like a pain in the ass, but when fuel prices hit £5 a litre, suddenly £500 on some home charging point will suddenly seem very reasonable Laughing

might be more fun with a Busa engine instead of electric power.

But I like the shape and the inside too.

If I had the spare change for something like that, I'd probably just go for the Carver that they showed on Top Gear...

or maybe even one of those Smart Diablo cars (with the Busa engine) Twisted Evil

I believe Carver went bump. They were 45000 Euros which is into BMW car prices, so not surprising really. Looked fun though

Another 3 wheeler that i've not seen before, this one from Mercedes:

Merc F300 Lifejet

I think i prefer the '2 front 1 rear' arrangement, it looks a little more 'stable' to me.

Another Merc concept which i think is quite funky:

F400 Carving

It's a 4 wheeler, but the wheels tilt and vary the contact patch.

Don't think four wheels offer better cornering speed - you need downforce for that I believe.
You may well get later braking, but presumably it's going to have rather narrow tyres, or possibly rounded bike style ones to account for the leaning.
I think I'll stick to my bike or reasonable-performance 'normal' car Smile.

Replace a bike? No. Too big for useful filtering.

Replace a car? Maybe. A lot of commuting cars have one person occupancy; this wouldn't cure congestion as such because people would still leave the same distance between cars and single carriageway roads will still be the same width. Where it would be useful is parking - widthways you'd probably be able to get three of these where two normal cars would park. You'd need to get people used to the form factor first before attempting to lull them over to electric power, so some small high efficiency engine would be needed - maybe a twin cylinder Diesel than can average over 100mpg. Then once people are used to them being on the road, the switch to electric would be taken up quicker. IMHO.

Would I have one? Yes.

That mercedes F400 carver thingy looked awesome! They say they can get 30% more lateral grip out of it, which to me says higher corner speeds.
