Bit of a long shot here!

There was a white N-reg BMW (no idea on the model) parked up outside the back of the Crown Court in Kingston today - on the Bittoms (think the rider was in County Hall?).

Got knocked over by a van, and I managed to give the vehicle reg to the rider.

If it was you, pm me because I can give you the number etc you need to phone to report the damage to your bike - didn't want to do it then and there because my boss was liable to come out any minute, and she had expressly forbidden me from letting you know about what happened because it was a company vehicle.

Well done Laura - but can you explain a bit more what your boss had a problem with?

That's a shitty thing for your boss to be doing. If it happened to me and i found out someone had tried deliberately to conceal what happened i would be in your store sharpish to raise hell.
I can assure you store items of equal value to the damage of my bike would be smashed to pieces. Razz

Thumbs Up To you for not listening to your boss.

Boss is a courts manager for the area - so a total company gimp woman.

It's not a store, it's the cells of the Crown Court - one of the big white Serco vans reversed up (parked right up behind another one) to get into the van bay to load up prisoners - driver didn't check behind him. To be fair to the driver, nothing should have been parked there as it is private property, but that's not the point.

Knocked the bike over, and the driver along with one of my staff pulled it upright. Aforementioned member of staff came in to report it to us, just as I was about to finish for the day. Boss checked with security whether it was on camera, and it wasn't, and I said I wanted to go and leave a note on the bike and make sure it was alright. She got all arsey with me, and told me I wasn't allowed to say anything because it would cost the company money. She already has a vendetta against me for various reasons...

I made a note of the van reg without her knowing, and slunk out to see what the damage was - planning to leave a note with the reg number on. Rider was there when I got to the bike, and I asked him if it was ok - he said he'd wondered how his pillion peg had snapped off (whole RHS hanger was snapped). So I gave him the reg of the van, and told him to google Serco to get the phone number.

On the way home, I contacted a mate in the Control Room, who was able to report the vehicle to their base without mentioning where the info came from, so the drivers will be forced to 'fess up when they get in.

As I said to one of the ushers on my way out, if someone knocked my bike over and tried to pretend nothing happened, I'd probably end up in the dock for some kind of vicious attack...

I would report your boss. I bet there is something within your T&Cs about reporting incidents of such a nature.

So your boss tried to stop you from reporting a witnessed driving offence? What would have happened if there had been a person in a wheelchair behind the van?

Report it to the police. Then when the bikes owner contacts them the details will get married up. You and the driver have tried to do the right things, its your boss that will get into trouble, possibly with the police!
.Im sure its technically leaving the scene of an accident so someone might end up in your courtroom for it!

Not quite sure why the court manager would be bothered - wouldn't come out of her budget or even come back to her, and the company won't thank her for the negative publicity if the news got out.

As it just has.

The driver of the sweatbox has an obligation to stop and provide details. As they have not done so at the scene, they must report the accident to police within 24hrs or commit an offence.

Hopefully their garage supervisor will point that out to them, or else they might find some points and court appearances coming their way. SERCO won't back them up for breaking the law.

Oh, and as others have pointed out - your boss has effectively attempted to pervert the course of justice!

Courts manager (for Serco) as opposed to HMCS Court Manager. She sees anything negative happening at the court as personally reflecting on her. Rolling Eyes

Just glad I managed to get it reported back to the base, which will result in the drivers being forced to 'fess up. If they don't, the member of staff who reported it to us in the office is a very, very poor liar Very Happy

He's actually a pretty sound bloke, given me a lot of support since I've been at Kingston.

Off to Isleworth (aka Failsworth) for 2 months on Wednesday Sad

I was Harrow Crown for a coupla months, then Hendon Mag for a year or so.

Isleworth is where I usually have to go to give evidence now - no mobile signal, the police room is tiny and the canteen is so expensive I have to arrange a mortgage to buy a coffee!

PS I dunno who Shaun is - I meant I worked there when it was still Securicor Justice Services - years before Serco took over.

Ah, kk.

Some of my staff still remember the good ole days of Securicor...

I hate Isleworth - the kebab shop down by the station is far superior to the canteen, which doesn't have takeout boxes Sad

you were being instructed by your employer (or their agent) to break the law. Well done for doing the right thing.
