Hey there, I'm a newbie to biking myself so I can't give advice, but here's a thread from a couple years back you might want to have a look at. A guy was asking about that bike.

Mate avoid the pulse its chinese shite and cheap for a reason . There are so many posts including one of my own telling of the horrors of the chinese made bikes. you get one cheap but end up paying twice in repairs.

If you want a decent bike that stands out look into the yamaha dt125 range (dtr / dtx) A decent one can be had for £1500 and they hold there value well are easy to maintain and more importantly you can get parts for them.

Never buy a brand new 125 matey.

There are that many for sale out there by people who have gained their full licence that it makes sense to get a used one.

1st off learn to ride the bike.......

The limits were put in place to ensure "L" lived to pass their tests and enjoy faster bikes later in life.

I have one of these. It's ok, if you know how to maintain it.
For £1500, you'd have your pick of Honda CGs, which are infinitely more abuse-proof.
Modification-wise, there's really not much that's worth putting on a 4-stroke 125. You're not going to get epic performance from it, there is no 'de-restriction', like there is with a 2-stroke.

The first bike I ever rode properly was a Jincheng 100 which my dad bought for my younger brother.

https://www.bikez.com/pictures/jincheng/2004/20885_0_1_2_jc%20100%20y_Image%20credits%20-%20Jincheng.jpg

Suprisingly, it was invincible, in the 2/3 years we had it, the only thing that happened was a flat tyre. It was actually stickered up as a Suzuki 100 but about 3 years ago, I found out the guy who we had bought it off got prosecuted for importing Chinese bikes and stickering them up as reputable makes and selling them at 3 times the price.

I would be expecting to buy 3 or 4 of these bikes for 1500 quid to be honest, they are not good so invest your money in something else, if you bought that bike today you would be lucky to get 700 quid tomorrow for it.

With a bit of haggling you could have one of these for 1500 quid, theres also a trail version, depends if you like the styling or not but these new MZs are as good as any Japanese 125 fourstroke single with the benefit of water cooling.

Buying a 125 is not like buying a large bike or even a car. You shouldn't buy based on age and mileage, you should buy based entirely on mechanical condition and what you think of the guy selling it. Private sales are best.

You should also take along someone that knows about bikes. This is important for your first bike, as you're eager to get one and know nothing about them. I find it very easy to sell to people like you.

The reason that you don't buy based on age and mileage is that it is entirely possible to rended a 125 scrap within 6 months and 2000 miles. If it has been bought brand new by someone clueless it may have snapped the chain, run the brake pads down to the metal, run the engine without oil, blown seals in the suspension or been subject to "home tuning". None of these things may be outwardly obvious to the newbie.

It also will have been crashed. You'll be very hard pressed to find a 125 that hasn't been down the road, this in itself shouldn't put you off buying. The thing to be aware of is a bike that has been crashed hard causing fairly major damage (dented, cracked or snapped frame, bent or creased forks, engine run whilst lying on its side for some time). The seller is likely to have replaced the damaged bodywork and will lie about the crash, if they're that sort of person. That sort of person can quite regularly be found when they're 17, bought a bike for £2k, and are now finding that it's worth half that and they still have £1500 of loan to pay off.

Find someone local to you on this forum, bribe them with a packet of fags or a 6 pack of beer, and they'll look over a couple of bikes with you. You'll save hundreds.

thanks for the advice guys i had a chines import before a por apache 125 which was ok and wasn't dear to repair when i was knocked off a couple of years ago.

i must admit i have bin looking at the kawasaki klx 125 and really like it but im not sure if i could warrant spending £3000 a new bike like that. do they hold there value or drop as soon as you get out the showroom ???
