Hey,
The evening before last i was riding home, around 9pm so it was getting dark, had been a really long day and the roads were deserted but i was in a 40 maybe doing 50...

Anywho, as it so happens the plod were sitting in a lay by which took a little while to register, sat at a slight angle to the right with their lights on facing down/into the road a little.

It was one of the bigger estate cars and didnt have any unusual markings thus i didnt think anything of it at the time (but i didnt manage to slow down untill i was fairly close) but the more i think about it, sitting there on a dead quiet road, long 40 strech, lights into the road.

Is there any chance they could have been out with a speed camera?

Best regards

On Night Turn area/traffic cars tend to sit up to watch out for drunk drivers, or let the ANPR do it's thing if they have it.

There's probably some heath and safety assessment that they can't do speed gun work without full sunlight, hi vis jackets and India 99 up with their Sunlite floods on.

Around this kind of time last year I was coming out of Canterbury towards Chartham and had this taxi sat literally 2mm away from my rear tyre. I held the 30mph limit to the change up to 40mph where the pedestrian paths disappear and proceeded to rag it off down the road to get rid of this taxi. I figured that if I came off the bike with him that close behind me I was a gonner. Anyway, I hit ~56 and glimpse in my mirror to see the taxi back in the distance and a police 4x4 sat right next to the 40mph sign... I went back past in a friends car a few hours later to get pizza and the car was still sat there, PC Plod in the drivers seat closely examining some screen. 12 months later, no speeding ticket. Either he saw my predicament and let me off, or he wasn't watching for people speeding.

People quite often pull over to read incident logs and see what their next job entails, or type up their actions for their last-assigned.

Thanks for the replies,
Checking logs/watching out for drunk drivers seems far more likely,
Put my mind at rest Smile

Mobile speed cameras tend to be in a van and I believe have to be marked with camera signs etc.

If it was just a regular police car at the roadside you should be fine. If he was that bothered by your riding he'd have come after you.
