Should have just knocked the twats off.... Twisted Evil

Top police man made a very valid point about the press. They slate the police when involved in a chase that results in a crash and injury, even to the teats who stole it. Yet they are giving them grief when they don't chase them...

WTF are they supposed to do.

Personally if they have stolen bike/car etc. The police should be allowed to use whatever force nessary to bring it to a halt as quickly as possible. If that means ramming them off the road, then so be it Thumbs Up

Would you really shed a tear if one of these scrotes were severely injured or to even die during a pursuit?

I wouldn't

Not intentionally, but if they did by accident say knock the fucker off the bike then a few scratches wouldn't be too bad. You give police the power to shoot then crime will drop quite rapidly.

What Bubbs just said, I am all for the police to do what ever they have to, to stop the scrotes.

Are you happy to let criminals get away in case they get hurt during the chase?

Not necessarily.

You assume you being shot at would deter. That's not always the case. Simply means that crims are more likely to go out tooled up, and to be fair I don't think our ordinary cops can be trusted to fire a weapon, given that the majority don't seem to have a clue about the law.

Your fence example is a little different.

Wink

In this instance the police are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

The UK police force has had a policy for quite a while that if the pursuit is deemed too dangerous to continue then they abandon it. Be this in a car or on a bike. It reduces the risk to innocents.

How would you feel if an innocent was taken out by a car/bike the police had tagged?

In the TV programmes showing the fuzz in car chases, you sometimes see them stop a chase (or at least back right off) as members of the public could be put at risk by the acts of the scrotes in the car/on the bike they're chasing. That's fair enough, as I wouldn't like to get hurt or my car/bike smashed up in the middle of a chase.

I've never seen one where they've backed off to ensure the safety of the idiot(s) they're chasing. But it does make you wonder if it happens, particularly bearing in mind the original post...

Quite frankly, the thieves made a conscious, informed decision to 1) steal the bikes, and then 2) ride them with no helmets on. They've made the choices, they're doing it, so why be concerned for their safety?

I don't think the police can be trusted to be given those sorts of powers since they can't seem to get away with abusing the ones they have.

The reason for 2 is that they knew they wouldn't be chased. As I've said some forces have had that particular policy for a while.

I think that any kind of pursuits in built up areas will put the public and other peoples property at risk, a more advanced security system is needed for bikes imo as I believe prevention is the best option. With todays modern electonic technology there is no reason that a bikes brain could not be incorporated into a smart card that is specific to each bike (similar to a phone sim card and used by honda on the nsr 250) as a removable item thus rendering the bike useless to thieves, this wont prevent them putting a bike into a van but it would prevent American style high speed pursuits were the rider, the bike and the public end up getting wrecked or killed.

Would probably be different if it was your bike they nicked...

Now THERE's a question. If PC Plod, whilst on duty, saw his own stolen bike going past, complete with Mr. Scrote on-board, I wonder what kind of chase would ensue?

Laughing It's not you cleaning the scrote off the road if he does crash though, is it?
I couldn't possibly say what my judgement call would be in such a situation. Regardless of my personal feelings towards bike thieves, I couldn't justify putting myself through the potential clean up (including any emotional trauma) and the villification by the press and public which no doubt leads to a suspension for however long, unless it was a violent crime (e.g the bike was nicked at gun point etc).

At least here it's only bikers they don't chase.
In this one they don't even chase bank robbers!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZRy-6hVuco&NR=1

On a more serious note. Don't they nudge bikers in the states to stop them if they won't stop?
IMO if you decide to flee from the po-po you accept what might come your way. Just happens to be tough luck if you're on a bike Razz
