Just wondering whether it's worth the hastle. I have an SV650S (curvey) and I'm going to have to sell it soon, but the bike has one or two issues that can be quite easily sorted, and it has run fine everyday since i've had it.

However I feel I wouldn't get much more than £1k for it. Only problems are scratches on the fairings, needs a new throttle cable, and the undertray is a bit dodgy but have a spare. Also the kill switch in the clutch has broken and been bypassed, which I think its actually better.

The Bike:
- Two fairly new Pilot Road 2's (tons of tread left)
- Givi Box 47ltr (less than 6months old)
- Half decent end can (Sounds lovely)
- 16,000 miles
- Starts first time every time without fail
- Stored in garage ever since i've had it.

So people of bikechat what do you think I should do? Break the bike and sell everything individually or sell the bike as it is.

Investigate the price you can get for various bits and see if it's worth more in spares, or as a whole.

To be fair you're quite lucky it's an SV as plenty of the bits will still be in demand for minitwin racing.

Wheels and disks must be a couple of hundred the pair.
Engine maybe three hundred.
Frame maybe three to four hundred.
Forks worth something.
Probably get fifty pounds the pair for the tyres.
Plastics are usually worth something.

Thinking

You'll need to do some research and see. Thumbs Up

I'd use forums to advertise if you can to try and avoid ebay fees as much as possible.

Thank you for your reply. I'm by no means a mechanic but i'm pretty good with my hands, do you think it would be a ball ache to break and send the stuff off? Do you think it is doable for someone who has never done it before?

How hard can it be?

Laughing

For me at least I've always found getting stuff apart far easier than getting it back together.

£801. Thumbs Up

a mate who had a total scrote of an 750 Virago that ran, just, and had no mot etc. I wouldn't have given 250 for it but he stripped it and got well over £800 for the bits on ebay.

Saying that, I would guess £1000 is abot the cut off point where its touch and go whether you will make more in one piece or in bits.

Ive been looking for suitable bikes but i dont know where to look!

Front end stuff is what goes first with fairings so buying crash damaged would be no good (unless insanely cheap).

Any thing fairly new would be no good as the cost is too high to make your money back.

Problem is you'll always have shitty bits that nobody will ever need lying around. But then, you could possibly sell these in a joblot of vaguely described tat Surprised thats what they do on ebay anyway.

Well as long as I can get some cash for it then I'll be happy.

If you had a bike with no service history would buyers avoid it like the plague?

Even though it runs fine?

Seen plenty of frames with V5s go for more than that. I guess it depends if the subframe's still fitted, and which bike it's for.

With the SV you may get lucky with someone rebuilding a minitwin and get more money for it.

They won't avoid it like the plague, it'll just be worth a bit less.

Ah ok good to know... Any idea how much less. I'd be happy with a random stab in the dark.

A bit. Laughing

Why not just it up on ebay with no reserve and see what it gets up to?

You can always end it and just break it if you aren't happy with the price.
