I once got caught out by evil clampers, who took my car, so I'm pleased that clamping and towing away vehicles from private land, is now illegal !

I read about this this morning, I bet they just water it down a bit. The last lot said they were going to crack down on rogue clampers and all they did was introduce a voluntary ombudsman for the idiots to join, or not if they prefered.

We're not bothered by it North of the border, but the SNP oddly seem keen to bring many of our laws in line with yours so we'll wait and see.

Definitely needs to stop for sure, its tantamout to obtaining money by menaces.

Clamping might be being banned but all that means is land owners/ management companies will find some other way to 'police' their land.

Privately issued parking tickets scare most folk into paying up, but there is doubt over whether they are actually legally enforceable.

I ignored demands for monies from a company a year ago and they pestered me for a few months, but I've heard nothing since, so I think they gave up trying to scare me.

I have seen people park their cars in other people’s driveways so that they can get closer to train station/hospital/supermarkets etc. I have seen people buy land, clear it all ready to be used to build on only to have people start to use it as a car park while the poor land owner was waiting for planning permission. Clamping is a good tool when used correctly. It is the short sharp shock that people need. Some people think that they can park anywhere they want. Some even see it as their right to park on others land, just because the land owner hasn't fenced it all off and put locked gates on the front.

The clamping industry does need some serious regulation but an outright ban is not the answer. People who are campaigning for a ban should consider how they would feel if inconsiderate tossers were to park on their land and cause obstruction and inconvenience to their lives.

The ban is aimed at the companies who indulge in a spot of entrapment, poorly sign posted areas and some with no signage at all.

As has been said, the ability to issue a parking ticket is enough North of Border so why not to the South? I think the scare mongering about people parking in driveways and land for building is going to be very rare indeed.

The organisations supporting a ban admit that something will need to be put in place to replace clamping, but the sooner arbitrary clamping is stopped the better.

Also, I imagine those of you who support clamping and the plight of land owners would maybe think again if a large black man tried to extort £3.5k from you while eating his lunch in your car.

The best bit about that was the company involved in a statement said their staff acted professionally from start to finish. (On Sky News.)

I work along a private road with private parking. The club owns a small section of it and my bike squeezes in there nicely but after about 6 cars there is no more room.

The rest of the road is fair game and we have had to place signs to warn our customers that their cars are being clamped. I wonder how the clampers are going to react to this news.

There's a place near me in Haworth.

Where they will clamp you for having your pay and display sticker, not stuck to the windscreen. (ie just resting on the dash board) or not the correct orientation. They are scum and they ruin tourism for the town.


Banning is the only solution.

Clampers are scum and i'm glad they are going out of business.
