every time I crash, theres nothing quite like seeing gravel sliding across your visor as you slide up the road on your face at 45 mph to make you realise your not immortal.
I still crash every now and then though.
Cheers

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance. |

Personally I really don't care about my mortality, the only thing that worries me is being in pain and not being able to do anything about it. Getting wiped out would suit me just fine, it's the keeping me alive and in tortuous pain that I fear!

I don't really care about dying I don't think. What I dread is the thought of going too soon, such that I imagine what it would do to my mother, brothers, girlfriend, but mostly my mom, I can't bear the thought of how it would effect her.

I don't think I take unneccessary or excessive risks, but I also don't live my life with constant fear or paranoia either.
However I have become more aware of my own mortality after losing three close family members over the last 5-6 years... but after dealing with the inevitable grieving process, it just motivates me not to waste any opportunity, because none of us knows how long we have left. ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

At 17 when I was told I have a brain tumour, on the pituitary gland.
So when I should have been out getting pissed and chasing anything with tits I was cooped up recovering from surgery and on 5 tablets and an injection every day (they really, really don't mix well with alcohol) |

I've accepted the fact that I'm going to die and everyone I've ever known will suffer the same fate. It's pain all round for everyone involved.
I may push my limits and get into hairyish situations but I always make a concious decision at the time to what I'm doing. Being honest I would rather not die right now, there's too much stuff to do but it's coming sooner or later and there's absolutely NOTHING I can do about it. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |

I've lost a few people now, friends and family, the first when I was 8 or 9, most recently my Gran this year. It doesn't get any easier.
Unlike a lot of people on here, it would seem. I am not motivated by the death of others to "make the most" of my life in the present or whatever.
I am mostly uninspired by existence and just waiting for death myself a lot of the time. Funny thing is, I doubt I will regret much. In the end, what would be the point.
Biking was killed for me when I smacked myself into a van on the motorway 7 years ago. I lost something in that instant, and while i'm not conscious of exactly what it is, I am pretty sure that is the reason I do a handful of miles a year now compared to what I used to.
I am not afraid to die, in fact, sadly I have wished for it on more than one occasion. Though I am concerned about pain and of hurting myself; losing my sight, an arm or leg, anything that would prevent me working (driving). I am accident prone, in my experience, if there is a disaster to be had, I will unconciously grasp it with both hands.
I have been in a hospital bed when the moment arrives that reality hits; Something is wrong here, tomorrow will not be the day I was expecting. Those can be some dark fucking moments.
I put off doing things like offroading and trackdays, in the main, because I can see myself fucking up through bravado and then hurting myself. Possibly badly.
It's easier for me to sleep, knowing that chances are I WILL be able to get up tomorrow and do the same thing I did today.
The reference to work is not a "I must be able to work" thing. I don't give a shit about that, I have a life insurance policy that pays the house off should I snuff it (suicide exempted). But merely a concern that I wouldn't be able to do one of the few things I enjoy - at the moment, driving. ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |
