Say you were on a decent road you knew very well and you were out for a blast.

You come flying around a corner and down a straight reaching 160mph and notice a police car at the side of the road. Do you slow down to 60 or do you carry on knowing he will most likely chase you?

This hasn't happened to me by the way.

Cheers

I would slow down, but I would also be looking at getting off that road. Wink

I didn't happen to me, but nearly did, at 130 units of speed since that's all my NC30 will do. But I know the road and think I could easily have got away but would they send out patrols looking for me or anything? Would he even try when I have that much of a lead and he doesn't have my plate?

It didn't happen as at the corner I got headlight flashed by a van and slowed down.

Don't know in the moment what I would have done though, he probably know the road just as well and has a Volvo T5, and is probably trained well.

Tough one, as it's not happened to me but I really don't know what I would do in that situation.

My gut instinct says though, if I was doing 160 down the motorway and there was a car parked up in a layby or something and I wasn't far off a slip road (as I knew that stretch) I would probably carry on and try and get away.

When you're doing that kind of speed, you're not thinking straight anyway, well at least I don't, the adrenaline is pumping and I don't have tha rational sense of thought.

In that situation you should open it up, If they catch up and get your plate its time to pull over.

Would have to be a quite road though, you don't want junctions etc at 160.

Happened to me a couple of times, once on the bike, once in the car.

Bike:
Testing some carb alterations i went for a blast down an arrow straight but quite narrow stretch of road i know. I was going fast enough that i was firmly looking where i was going rather than at the speedo, but i would guess 110-120. Towards the end of the straight is a right hand turn that a police car came round heading the other way. He put his lights on as soon as he saw & heard me. I kept the throttle pinned, slowed as little as possible for the corner, went past the next major turning as it would be the obvious place to go, down the next minor turning and picked my way down the lanes towards a main road on the other side. No idea if they even attempted to follow me. I was clearly going way over the speed limit, quick enough to make catching me after turning around take a while.

Car:

I was doing about 55 in a 30 limit (no junctions, blind corners, pedestrians etc. It's 30 as there is a school not far away, but this was late at night so i thought fuck it). Again police car coming the other way spotting me cornering with a huge amount of body roll and possibly squeeling tires, puts their lights on. It was a blonde police woman alone in the car, to her i must have looked like a deer in headlights Laughing As before, foot down end of the road, right at the junction into a small gap i the traffic, 2nd left, 2nd right, parked the car up completely out of sight and walked to my mates i was originally heading for.

To be honest both were me being a stupid prick and getting caught out. As the police were going the other way and would only have seen me 2-3 seconds i doubt they could have proved my speed. The speed i was going both times would have meant they would have had to drive far quicker than a police car would ever go in order to find me. They probably knew that and didn't even bother trying.

They could probably have done me for driving without due care, if they'd had cameras running that could have picked up my plate, but either they didn't or they thought it not worth the hassle. They probably just put their lights on to tell me to slow the hell down rather than give chase?

Would i do it again? I dunno. I don't ride & drive like i used to so i don't see the situation ever coming up again. The ability of the police to hunt you down has also got better so it's probably not so easy to get away with now.

wouldn't you get in the same amount of trouble regardless of if you stop or not.

you get spotted speeding, slow down they pull you over to do you for speeding

you get spotted and keep going they pursued you and request you stop, to do you for.... speeding ?

If I was passing them by at 160mph then probably I would take my chances by not slowing down.
After all it's not running until they make it obvious that they are chasing you by following you closely Laughing

And saying that you didn't see them hiding in bushes would be understandable at that speed too Wink

But that's all hypothetical Mr. Green

Some police forces wont chase bikes, depending on force policy.

I dont just mean the big deal being made about the bike theives in Manchester. Some forces wont pursue bikes who make it clear they wont stop as they worry about people having massive crashes. They will still put up a helicopter, or in Hampshire, a plane, but they wont chase with cars on blues.

They even sometimes do it with cars depending on how fast/mental you drive.

I have done it, was going over 150, police car came the other way -blues came on as I was approaching it - kept it pinned and shot down a side road and parked up - police car went passed at a rate of knots - this road was adjecent but behind a bush. waited 5 mins then set off again.

Not particularly clever.

Only other time was not noticing a police car behind me - got upto 120ish (gradually) slowed down at a roundabout - police drove up the side of me and said "OI YOU - OVERTHERE (pointing at a juntion at the side of roundabout) NOW. Never the less - I took my bollocking didnt admit to anything speed wise and got let off.

Keep it pinned, and get off of that road.. If you're doing 160 by the time they've got up to speed your a mile or two ahead. Plenty of time to hide.

Stuff about going fast

Depends if it was day or night I think. *Someone I know* was in a similar situation late at night, gunning it to the tune of 130mph on a long straight bit of NSL road, let off for an approaching corner and noticed the blues and two's in the distance behind him, they gunned it and took the next exit off the road and went off up some lanes and home over the hills (the joys of living in the country, plenty of country lanes!).

As has been said, I think it's a tough one to call unless you're actually in that situation.

I've evaded the cops twice, both times I was confident that they had been too far back to read my plate, and I was always putting distance between us until they slipped out of view to allow me to make good my exit.

I'd do it again if the situation called for it.

If i knew they hadn't got my plate, and could make the decision quick enough to know where I'd go and how long it'd take to get there... I'd run at any speed. 160 on a straight road is not far off 3 miles a minute, you'd be long gone by the time they've spun it around

If they have any video recording going you're knackered, otherwise they aren't going to get your plate at 130mph.

I'd back off and like Paxovasa try and get off that road ASAP! Wink ... I would be sticking to the speed limits for the rest of my journey and be keeping a keen eye in my mirror ...

If I saw them giving chase, I'd pull over and take the rap, I'd never try and out-gun them ...

Presuming I didn't get followed/chased and I made it home ... I would then pack it for about a month waiting for a letter to hit the doormat where they got my plate/me on camera though Crying or Very sad

Would anyone here go back and turn themselves in even if they didn't pursue??? ... Thinking

I,ve had a few runs on the bike before and once in a car though far easier to get away and hide with the bike, best one was being chased on my CBR600F near brixton after coming home from a night out in central london a few years ago, took the bike for some offroading across a estate and down a few alleyways to make sure l had lost them.

nice way to get a good adrienne rush Laughing

Happened countless times such as;

Came around a roundabout heading up a hill (40 limit dual lane) whilst playing with some Audi estate. Came over the top of the hill and see a marked car with 2 policemen, 1 with a radar gun. There was one car that had allready been pulled over in lane 1. I was in lane 2 where the 2nd police officer walked in to and put is hand out to stop us both. I didnt stop and went around him shot around the roundabout 20 meters thurther down the road gunned it home and parked the bike down the alley way beside my old flat and covered the bike. The estate car stopped Laughing

Wheelied past a college ( Cool ) then when i rechecked my mirrors sirens came on a couple cars back. I shit myself and shot off, the police car now has over taken the other cars. I slam the brakes on and turn up a side road and get to the end of that short road quickly, glance back as im turning down a different road and see the police car stopped at the first turning. I took a very long route home avoiding going anywhere near the college and shat my self all night Laughing

Me and a mate where going down a single lane bypass at around 110-120 and as we come up to a layby notice that there was a traffic cop car. The lights came on but the car was facing the wrong way, so i dropped a cog or two and pinned it to the next roundabout and my mate let off Shocked As we passed the car one of the officers hands was doing the 'slow down' gesture out of the window Laughing

ahhhh memories Laughing

Police car chased me for a while and then I pulled over (they weren't keeping up very well, so i didnt know i was being chased) and my plate wasn't visible on the video until I stopped. Fully legal plate.

I got busted not on a bike but a stolen XR3i. Didn't know it was stolen at the time should of guessed as a friend of a mate asked if I want a go in it . Dumb move on my part .
Was belting it down a road near where I lived when I passed a cop going the other way so I floored it , came round a corner a bit further on and there was another car parked in the road with light flashing ( this was before stingers) well I went round him (as It now dawned on me that I may be driving a stolen car )and dumped the car in a local housing estate ran like fuck and hid in a cornfield . Waited till the coast was clear and I parted company with the chap who had been with me in the car. Got home and was in bed when cops arrived , they had stopped my mate as he walked home and he sang like a canary.
Got 8 points and £300 fine.
