Hi all, where do you all get your breakdown cover from?

My Insurance usually provides mine but this year it is an optional extra at a cost of £30 something. If I broke down I'd want to be towed home so I can sort it there rather than the nearest garage. What sort of prices do the good folks of BCF pay and with which company?

Greenflag wanted over £100!!

Thanks.

I used to always advocate the option with the insurance............. until it let me down big time with the small print. Coat me loads on top of the £30.

I have gone back to the RAC, did a package that does all the home start, take anywhere, puts you up, any vehicle you are in or on or with. All for £82.
When the car snapped it's throttle cable it was fixed for free by the RAC just because I had my Dad with me who was in the RAC. That is what changed my mind. Thumbs Up

I'm with GEM Motoring Assist

https://www.motoringassist.com/home

They have numerous awards from Auto Express etc for their service and when my old man had to use them they arrived quickly and even text when they were on their way.

Their top policy is £82.80 plus you get to add another person for free as the joint policy is the same price. That then covers you for any car/bike and light vans.

If you also go to www.topcashback.co.uk and sign up you'll get £15.00 back

What level of cover are you looking at with Green Flag. As I have both car and bike and its no where near £100.

Unless you are going abroard then Recovery or Recovery + is enough and they are from £48. Try also looking at personal cover which I think does not ask for bike/car details.

Remember check out cash back sites... Quidco offer upto £30 for green flag.

AA, me and other half. Roadside rescue, recovery home or to garage and replacement vehicle (car) if they can't fix it and needs recovery.
All for the grand sum of £10 a month by direct debit.

I also have ADAC cover for 77 euros a year, covers me throughout Europe

Won't effect your NCB. But you need to read the T/C as many of the policies supplied as a add on, will only take you to the nearest garage if your breakdown. Not always recover you home if past a certain milage.
Or even charge you per mile after 10 miles...... Surprising how it mounts up.....
Might also only allow so many call outs per year.

Nobody, learn to maintain your bike a bit better?

Though tbh if I have a catestrophic crash I have 5 numbers of friendly local bike shop owners who'll do it for £20

Ah cool. Yeah, CN limit to 4 times per year. I didnt see anything about a distance limit but i haven't got round to reading the terms thoroughly yet

Why bother paying £120 a year when you already have ADAC coverage?

You are covered in the UK by ADAC and guess who they use for call outs? The AA

Plus the ADAC cover has all the bells and whistles, such as covering the person, roadside rescue, recovery to wherever you want. etc....

So if i change my oil every 3/4 weeks it'll stop me getting a puncture in Carlisle or my diff from striping the cogs on the M25?

ADAC won't give me a car if bike is screwed, don't cover my other half and when i ring the AA i don't (often) have to ask if there is someone there who speaks English.

Really, last time i had a puncture, they offered me a car, train or flight, to my destination, and that was in the UK... Everytime i have called them they spoke perfect English.

Can't comment on the wife thing though, i don't want one of those.

I got RAC as it covers bike and car, accident assist (which was VERY useful when I wrote my car off) and they have a quicker standard response time than AA (my job deals with broken down motorists and RAC is standard 30mins, whilst AA is 60).

And can (but so far havent tried) use them in Europe.

I know of some really bad experiences with recovery through insurance so I went with dedicated company.

£8 something a month. I'm happy to pay that for the cover it provides.

Used to work at Norwich Union and I also saw that the RAC has a quicker response time despite the AA having more vehicles

I use AutoAid. Pay and claim. (Does pay though, i've claimed twice over 2 terms of insurance), and is fairly comprehensive.
£37.

Note: Not sure if they cover bikes under 150cc or not.

bollocks to breakdown cover i dont bother with it, if i break down i get my mate to come get me in the van and fix it myself, whats the point in paying for someone else to do it when you can do it for free lol.

plus not many places will cover me cause my bikes over 15 years old Very Happy

Family policy with GEM. Costs me about £40 (£120 divided by 3 of us) and that brings me home with any domestic vehicle I am driving or passenger in/on.
