Hey guys, dunno if anyone is familiar with them here but i picked myself up a 6v points based Honda c90 a few months back and finally got it running and through it's first MOT in probably a million years so I can start using it for commuting.

The only thing is it seems to run a little weird. The engine feels and sounds like a sewing machine but when setting off from stationary it feels very hesitant and almost as if its bogging down a abit, but does pick up. As you work through the gears it will feel like its bogging down in 2nd gear at around 20/25mph until you change up to third. Once its going it will quite happily cruise without any issue at 30/40mph. It also seems to be a little bit temperamental after about 10miles of riding through light traffic. The bike will feels like its running out of fuel then cuts out totally. It will sometimes restart on a few kicks but wont stay running. If I leave it a while it seems to be fine and I can kickstart it and carry on riding. Any idea on where to start looking first to sort this problem out? Girlfriends dad has suggested its running lean so far but I've not got the right sized sparkplug tool to check if the plug is white.

Cheers,

G.

Could be so many things lol Have you checked out the points? That's where I'd start. Could be dirty, not set right, pitted. Fuel tank could well be full of crap/rust. I had a tracker that used to cut out after about 15 miles and wouldn't run again until it was filled up. Turned out to have about a kilo of silt, rust and assorted other debris in the tank.

Also, it's common for these motors to burn a bit of oil and coke up a bit, like a stroker. Fairly common for the exhaust valve not to close up properly, leading to a loss of power and symptoms of the kind you describe. Valve timing might be out too. Only thing to do is have a dig round. Pay particular attention to the wiring - the electrics are woeful on the old 6v steppies.

It's a honda you're allergic to them.

Wiring should be spot on as i've pretty much rewired the whole thing and the tank is clean and rust free as I had it drained and off the bike whilst I was working on it. I'll check the things you mentioned and see if they are in spec.

and itchy... Razz
