PostPosted: 13:03 - 23 Aug 2010    Post subject: New Biker Here :D CBT Thursday Reply with quote

Hey all, My name is Matt and I am 18 years old and I am doing my CBT this coming Thursday and I am quite nervous about it. I have always had a keen interest in bikes and stuff because I grew up with all of my friends having bikes/scooters and my dad also used to have a bike when he was younger. I am the safety type of person when it comes to biking and stuff as I always care for myself and others when on the road and understand the dangers as my dad has crashed a bike when he was younger and luckily only suffered minor injuries. My parents were a bit anxious at first when i was doing my C.B.T but they understand I am not those type of people on there 50 or 125cc scooters with no helmets on and with young people on there back. Anyway... I hope to pass my CBT Thursday and I have never had any experience whatsoever with a bike apart from a push bike so I am quite nervous. I will be driving a Honda Pantheon FES125 4T after I pass which I brought £600 from my friend as he has never really drove it as he is now learning to drive a car. I look forward to meeting you all and making new friends and having good bike talks with Very Happy wish me luck Thursday Smile

Good luck Matt, hope all goes well.

I am having to wait until mid Sept for my CBT which is a bit frustrating.

Mike.

Common mistake. CBT isn't a pass/fail thing... you just might find yourself invited back for a bit more practice. Don't stress about whether you pass or fail - just learn as much as you can and enjoy the day. I had a whale of a time on mine.

What kind of people ride 50 and 125cc scooters without helmets on and young people on their backs? Like literally on their backs? Also, how young?

Welcome Matt, don't stress over the CBT, you'll enjoy it.
Alot of people here will agree that it's alot of fun.
Just try to relax, and it'll all come good.

It is a pass and fail thing though, it isn't a formality, you either pass and meet the required standard or you fail and have to go back, it isn't a case of not being good enough and they give you a certificate saying you have passed, but come back next week and we will finish the training off.
You either meet the requirement and pass, or you fail the first day and go back to finish it off.

Good luck, but I would highly recommend reading the highway code before hand.

Agreed. I had an advantage having been a car driver for nearly 25 years, so road awareness/roadsigns etc wasn't an issue. You'll enjoy it though Very Happy

Have you ridden a bicycle on the roads before?

It's just like that, but faster. Cool

Remember to eat and drink on CBT day.

The most important thing really is keeping hydrated, you will be hot and sweaty most of the day, wearing a lid etc make sure you keep yourself watered, keep your concentration levels up etc.

I had never ridden a bike before mine either, did it at 17 so was a geared YBR 125:)

I'm quite mechanically minded so it was great fun I could'nt have enjoyed it more, especially as I got it for half price £60! lol

I went the wrong way once because I didn't adjust the
mic volume that goes in your ear properly so did'nt know where the fuck I was going, be sure to make sure you can hear him at the begginning Mr. Green

Enjoy and pay attention the whole time, enjoy Thumbs Up

Update: Had a fantastic day doing the C.B.T, had the nicest instructor ever telling me every small detail there is to riding and was very helpful, he turned me from a no experienced rider into a fully confident rider. I did all the figure 8s, emergency stops, U-turns, junctions all perfectly he said, I kept looking down sometimes and he told me to keep my head straight up forward all the time and when I did he said I was a really good rider. Anyway I passed it and enjoyed it very much Very Happy... Done it on a Honda CG 125 ;P

Well done on the CBT. Next step is to get the full test done so you can get rid of the L plates and buy a bigger bike
