help on a new bike

hey all, im looking at buying a new/second hand 125 dual sport bike either 2 or 4 stroke? im going to be using it most days on the road and weekends green laning and the odd motocross track.i been told husqvarna are supposed to be cool as well as aprillia and suzuki. any suggestions would be excellent. thanks.

You are going to find it very hard pressed to get a bike that can handle a motocross track decently as well being used daily.
The Husky WRE125 may be worth considering - it uses the quite reliable DT125 engine in a better chassis.
Something like the KTM EXC 125 will handle the motocross track fine and I've known people use them for the road, but also know a lot of people would worry about using them daily as they are in a high state of tune.

On that, the KTM would be illegal to be used for both 33hp (restricted test) and 14.6hp (CBT) as stock.

What's your budget and are you restricted to 125cc as a learner?

The reality is that anything that's going to be half decent on a motocross track is going to be high maintenance - and the 4 strokes are actually a lot worse than the 2 strokes in this case.

I don't know how good/bad the WRE suspension is in reality; never ridden one and not seen reviews of it going in to that detail. However pretty sure it'll be better than offerings on the Jap bikes.
They are quite hard to find though, too.

Personally, given your budget, I reckon the best bet is to take your test. This offers up a lot more options.
If you do want to ride on proper motocross tracks and are stuck on one bike, I'd go for a fairly modern (last fifteen years) 300cc enduro bike. Having lots of midrange means you don't have to thrash them on the road, they have good suspension and are light enough to hack it on a motocross track.

* Saying that, the KTM 125 probably makes twice the power of road 4 stroke 125 bikes before you even get in to the powerband.
