Garages... Floors... RED!!!

why is the floor paint normally red?

obviously lots have grey or silver floor paint (or no paint) but the common thing is red.

Why?

Could be because it's easier to see spanners/tools against a red background?

Must admit I painted my workshop floor red, there was no particular reason I chose red.

Because, for a long time floor tiles were always red. So for floor paint they just follow that lead.

I painted mine red because rusty and grey things show up against it, and it means I could tell which bits were painted and which bits were concrete when I was doing it. There was more red paint on the shelf as well.

I can offer a more plausible/artsy fartsy reason too.

Garages, traditionally werent very well insulated, or heated, and Red is a warm feeling, making the place 'feel' warmer. It also makes you hungry, which is probably where the so many tea and biscuit breaks come from!

Traditionally workshop floors were painted with lead oxide (red lead) paint because of its waterproof and anti-corrosive properties.

I still need to paint my garage floor - I don't care what colour but why does it have to be so bl00dy expensive?

I wouldn't mind but it doesn't seem to matter how well you paint it, it always chips/comes away and then looks tatty!!
