So today i started working on the GPZ again... Might as well try my hand at a re-spray than forking out £300 for a pro one.

So far i've finished the pillion grab handle, the rear plastic bit on top of the brake light, the wheels, the frame and the left side seat panel.

Just gotta do the tank, right side (already got primer on it) and the fairing/bellypan.

Yes, i know it's not the best paint job, but it'll do for what i want to use it for Thumbs Up

i DID make a mess of the front wheel, the paint got on the tyre a wee bit, but it's not THAT noticable Wink

Photowhoring:

As i got it.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0243.jpg?t=1281466513

Working up....

This is what i'm working from
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/kawasakigpz5002001black.jpg?t=1281467427

Work with what you've got eh Wink This is the first bit with primer...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0291.jpg?t=1281467588

and this is it painted Smile
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0293.jpg?t=1281467591
Wee white specks on the right are bits of shite out the shed, wiped off Laughing

Here's it on the bike, with the freshly painted grab handle
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0297.jpg?t=1281467999

Next up was the (repaired) seat fairings...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0292.jpg?t=1281467606

The primer...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0296.jpg?t=1281467613

And painting.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0298.jpg?t=1281467860

an angled picture...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0303.jpg?t=1281468001

Back wheel painted...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0300.jpg?t=1281468000

Which went a lot better than the front wheel did...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0299.jpg?t=1281468001

Not sure how well BT45s grip with paint on them.

Some more pics from angles, showing the rest of the bike... front fairing is getting chucked soon as i get another one Smile

obligatory POV view
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0308.jpg?t=1281468668

A sly pic of the rim tape Laughing
And i added the '500S' stickers
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0310.jpg?t=1281468670
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0311.jpg?t=1281468670

Another pic of the back, you can KIND OF see the repair under the paint, but it's not obvious.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0312.jpg?t=1281468671

And again, but this time with a little glimpse of the front wheel and rim tape.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0313.jpg?t=1281468672

Then got the big red stripe for the back panel, It didn't stick at the top end and slid down just a wee bit, but i've straightened it out now, just before i put it away in the shed.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0314.jpg?t=1281468677
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/gpz%20project/Photo0315.jpg?t=1281468677

Should hopefully be all finished this weekend, might end up running out of paint/primer when it comes to painting the tank though, which will SUCK...

Cheers

Looks like the primer wasn't completely flat, something has reacted in a few little places and the paint should really have been polished flat before putting the sticker on as it gets rid of the orange peel effect and helps the sticker to stay on. I take it your not planning to lacquer it? I mean it doesn't look terrible or anything, not bad given it's your first attempt Thumbs Up

Youtube address is on my lid Wink

It has laquer on it, just never really polished it yet.

Not planning on it being 100% perfect, long as it's black and doesn't have the scratches and cracks anymore, i'm happy with it.

Going to be a commuting hack, something for my first bike.

Happy enough with it tbh, not like I have any experience with it Thumbs Up

Not putting things on the grass will help, dirt, dust, condensation etc are all paints worst enemy.

Touch of white spirit and a rub with a rag should sort the tyre out.

Use will also sort it out. once the paint sets it becomes brittle, the rubber flexing as you ride will start to crack it off.

Looks like not a bad start, but it looks like you've rushed it.
It really needs a really fine rub down between coats ideally, and certainly before laquer to flatten the paint. It still looks really quite orange peely and not particularly even.

But I suppose if you just want a cheap job then it'll do.

I suppose it's not exactly an MV f4i.

Om nom nom i love the HRC scheme.

i'm looking at using this for a wee bit, and after i crash it, might 'fighter it and use it as a winter hack...

Looking at getting a zx6r, CBR600f, one of the bigger sports 6's.

But for now, the GPZ will do.

Bought for £300, spent £100~ on parts and paint, and it's still taxed and MOTd till april.

Can't complain at that eh? Mr. Green

Update as to my progress...

Got it running, and then broke it again Laughing

Maybe a bent valve, maybe the carbs again, maybe the piston is guffed, i dunno but i'll have to get it fixed soon Sad

I've been working on the plastics and the like recently, as it needed a re-spray... thought i'd do it myself to save funds Smile

Progress so far... just got the tank and fairing to do!
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0325.jpg

This side needs stickered up
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0329.jpg

This side is finished, as is the wheel
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0328.jpg

Not sure why i took two of the same bit but there you go!
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0327.jpg

The forks and wheel done, and the rim tape Wink
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0326.jpg

Shouldn't be too long till she's finished Smile

Gazdaman, you have been sigged sir Laughing Karma

DaFrostyOne, what is HRC about any of the HRC CBR's Honda produce?

Dunc, carry on mate, when I had the GS I did loads to it in terms of renovation, it's a great feeling and gets you looking after your bike, although you seem to know what you're doing anyway Smile

If i'm honest i have absolutely no idea what i'm doing.

This is the first time i've ever painted something like this, and with regards to repairs and the mechanical side, it's all trial and error.

Best way to learn i suppose - you never try you never learn Thumbs Up
