Suggested Bike route

This is the route I've been taking to get from the dealers who are 'sorting' my faulty trip computer to home, but it struck me as a really good bike route, scenic and a few good corners so thought I'd share it...

The dealers are in Rochdale soooo...from M62 J21, take the turning for Shaw, (2nd exit from the motorway, 1st from Rochdale). Follow road for ½ mile and take a left signed Huddersfield. A640

Follow that until you get to Denshaw, Diagonally opposite the junction is a small road accessed by joining the Huddersfield road and then immediately turning left, (give way junction).

Follow that road A6052) through Delph, (there is a crossroads where you need to turn right and then immediate left, in effect straight across on a dog leg). Follow that road to Uppermill. After going through the village about 1/3 mile on the left is a turn signed to Holmfirth. This is the A635 and the main reason for this route. Follow that to Holmfirth. There are a few compression bumps on it so beware when doing over the ton.

The road comes down into Holmfirth where you need to turn left for 200 yards and then take the right at the lights. After 150 yards there is a right turn as the road bears round to the left (not the first right just before the corner) and has a right turn box. IIRC it is signed for Penistone and is the B6106. Enjoy that road also although here are a few tight turns on it. The road eventually takes you to the Woodhead road at Thurslton. From there it's up to you.

Turning left towards Sheffield gets you to Penistone and a shell garage. From there if you follow the road through the town centre keeping going straight forward at the 2 junctions you come across takes you to the Strines road and eventually the A57 Snake pass by Ladybower/Derwentwater Reservoirs.. Right takes you on the Woodhead pass road where you can turn off to Glossop then on to Buxton or continue to Manchester.

If anyones of yous come to northern ireland say stranrare to larne i see a lot of bikes coming of the ferry heading straight for belfast.

Though one of the best routes is on the coast road the A8 which takes you right up to portrush (Home to the northwest 200).

The whole way along the coast, loads of corners right next to huge 100 foot cliffs and you could'nt get any closer to the sea it also has lots of nice small villages with pubs and chippys so you'll never go hungry or thirsty+excellent scenery though a lot of bikers have had accidents (its tricky) its gotta be one of the best here !

I'm always looking for new routes, and there is nothing better than someone elses reccomendation.

Just a suggestion, but how about setting up a section just for routes. If you know of any decent rides, post the route up, giving total distance, type of route (twisties, scenic, fast blat etc).

Other info worth posting is - speed cameras en route, worthwhile stop off points for tea'n'smoke, biker meeting points in the vicinity etc.

With a poll for each route, along the lines of - Well worth the Worn Tyres - Worth a Try - Waste of Fuel.

Am I spouting twaddle here, or can an administrator add this section?!!

Problem is people are generally not willing to putting details of their good roads they know of up on the 'net for everyone else to read about. Reason why being it makes that road busier, and busier with bikes riding it at a fast pace will mean more police presence.

Most people on here are happy enough to show people they actually know good roads that they know, but wouldn't even consider putting details of it up on here (or any database with public access) and the route will just get over run and targeted by the police. It's the same as the way bike magazines mention about how they have these really good routes worked out for their bikes tests but don't give us any details of where they are as they want them to stay as good routes and not have half the local police force with speed traps on the route.

Just my worth on that idea.
