TRX850, info?

Dont normally stick these kinda posts up and im sorry if they become a bore!...

Cant really find much info out about these TRX's, as i quite fancy one, but i have a few questions i need answering before i jump in and fork out for one.

Physical size is my main issue. Me being 6'5, ive kinda accepted i dont really fit on any sporty kinda bike. I currently have a J1 ZX6R that i dont find bad for 'space' and position, how does the trx compare to one of these or any other bikes along those lines?

Ive heard about them blowing cranks at times, but then ive also heard how they can drink a bit of oil, so no doubt these 2 issues are linked and seem ( to me) to be the operator not checking the oil often?

What are they like on fuel?

Not really interested in another inline 4 sportsbike for the time being. The TRX caught my eye for its originality and that it can be modified quite easily useing bits from other bikes from the Yamaha stable.

skinny bike with shit brakes and all the shite of a twin, with none of the good bits of a v twin! a dull bike! 2nd gear can be a problem!

I used to own 2 ZX6R J1's and have ridden TRX850 on a number of occasions.

In a nutshell, the ZX6R is a much nicer bike.

The TRX was lumpy, slow and didnt handle very well compared to the ninja.

I liked my TRX.

It never had any problems till the crank went at 47,000 miles.

It is lumpy, give it some beans and I could get 130 out of it, not a huge amount left but some pretty good torque when above 4k.

I thought it handled quite well and when I got used to the riding position, really easy to ride.

The TRX is one of those bikes i never want to ride because i've got a real picture in my head of how they will be. All V twin thudding 270 degree crank, with a lattice frame, under-rated and easily upgradeable, memories of the Bike Magazine lads at Donny on a track day when one of them built that Aprilla RS300. They were all riding round the outside of everyone on the TRX till one of them lobbed it into the gravel at Redgate. I always pictured them as a revvy, v twin firing, thrashable, cheap, Jap alternative to a Ducati.

I just know im going to be dissapointed if i ever ride one.

So i'm not going to go out of my way to ride one, i'm happy with the picture in my head.

Its not really a downgrade as such.

I want to retire the ZX from all round duties and turn it into a trackbike. Its now a Cat C write off, so it doesnt owe me anything.

I just fancied a break from the norm. Quite like the whole 'showing up' game, using a less capable bike. Also want somthing a bit more practical as its my main mode of transport, but dont want somthing completely practical!

Im still only 20 after all!

You are much better off using your ZX6R for all round duties, the stuff I carried around on mine was crazy.
