I had my first off the other day, not entirely sure how the bike is as I was carried off in an ambulance, but truslack says it didn't look too bad.
Anyway I'll need to get a new lid and gloves, possibly boots as they've been shredded by the road. Just proves they did their job well. I think my textiles should live to fight another day so they shouldn't need replacing.

I was just wondering if it's possible to claim for them under accidental damage on the household insurance? I've heard of a few people doing it, just wondering if anyone has tried and failed?

I had a Shoei XR1000 and I can't afford to replace it with another Shoei which is a shame as I love Shoei helmets, so I'm hoping I might be able to get another one on the household insurance.

Any experience or advice?

I called my insurance company (forces financial) to ask about this a while back, and they said it was fine. Didnt even have to declare it on the policy.

No experience myself, but this is why I am glad I paid the extra cash for helmet and leather insurance on my policy, I don't think your house policy will cover it though, as you it isn't a permanent structure to your house, it would fall under contents insurance, in which case I still don't think you would be covered.

Check your policy to see whether it covers accidental damage done by yourself, then check to see if your insurance has cover to "All Risks" which then covers any possessions (and sometimes some cash) you take with you when you leave your house, to be fair I doubt it, sometimes they wont cover items that are in your garage or shed, so out on the public road, will probably be a no no, but again I haven't had to experience this, so don't know, but I hope this helps

Very much doubt that household insurance covers that, but you'd need to read your policy documents to find out.

The gloves and boots shouldn't need replacing after one crash. And is the helmet physically unusable so needs replacing or does it need replacing cos the sales blurb says to replace it after a crash?

Have you called up whoever insures your bike and see if they will cover for your gear? My insurance covers mine but I really can't remember if it was something I had added on or came with the policy.

Don't some helmet companies let you send the lid in for like an Xray and get it checked over to.

A quick search, if you contact Shoei customer services, they can give you a number, and you then send the lid off to be X ray tested, and let you know the results, caveat of it is, if your helmet is fubared they will destroy it, if it is good they will send it back, worth giving them a ring though

Cheers for the responses

The lid has a chunk missing from the front and the side and back are covered in scratches, I'm not going to risk using it again. The gloves are in tatters. The boots might be useable again but I haven't actually seen them yet, though I was told they're ripped, so I don't know.

The bike is only insured TPF+T so I won't be able to make any claims through my bike insurance.

The household insurance includes accidental damage, things taken away from home and clothing, so I might be able to get somewhere, I'll have to see.
