Fastest world record attempt in progress.

Nick rode around the world in 2005 on an R1 in 19 days and 4 hours. He has now motorcycled around the world 7 times- and circumnavigated the world twice on a bicycle.

He first motorcycled the length of the Pan American route in 1996 when he broke his ankle in the snow the day after setting off and continued to ride the whole length but failed to get the record. It has bugged him ever since.

Nick rode from Calgary to Prudhoe Bay ready to start the record ride. The side stand was kicked up and the first mile began on Saturday 21st August on a YZF-R1.
Not the right bike?
Can he beat the current record of 27 days?
Is he mad?

Nick is posting his video blogs as he rides.

Check them out here www.nicksanders.com

All the best

Very Happy

Hi everyone. It's Caroline at base in the UK. Nick is doing well and going very smoothly after a horrible scare. The starter motor packed up and he has been bump starting the bike all the way from the Alaskan border to Calgary and on to Salt Lake City. Tim at Wrights has got a motor pulled out of a new R1 ready for him! 4 mechanics standing by to do a really fast service and tyre change to Conti Road Attack 1s. Nick will carry a spare set and could still do the record in under 23 days! Check out the blogs....and photos...and even video blogs!! at Nick's website

www.nicksanders.com

Your support and interest is really appreciated...all great entertainment!

Almost forgot to tell you.......after the first GPS tracker unit failing we hope to have a new live tracker uploaded on to Nick's website in the bext few hours so you can watch his progress real time!

You can chew your finger nails to the quick, like me, and see how close he gets to the current record of 27 and a bit days. Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Nick is now back on the road thanks to Paul in Calgary, Dave in Tooele, and Red-Line in Grand Prairie...and most of all to Tim at Wrights in Salt Lake City.
Nick had bump started the bike from the Alaskan highway to Salt Lake City!
The bike needed a new starter motor and service and new Conti Road Attack tyres ( he was down to the wire). Tim even found Nick a replacement Spot Tracker as the last one gave up after 5 days. I’ll soon have the tracker up on the website so you can follow him realtime.
Nick has lost 6-8 hours but hopefully can make this up and is still on to set a record no one else can beat! He has put up more photos and blogs and a new video on the website.
I hope you guys are enjoying this! My nerves are frayed already!

Next big worry is Mexico…is there a safe route through?

More photos, blogs and film clips. Just click here. www.nicksanders.com

Not spam......I just think you guys out there should know about record attempts like this.
This is gruelling stuff and few could do it. Most of the motorcycle press would rather print stories about YET ANOTHER tedious road test rather than give stuff like this space.
We need to be lifted out of the doom and gloom surrounding us and just live vacariously through adventures like this if we can't do it our selves.

Who out there agrees?????

Usually my bike bump starts within a few yards. Did he turn the fuel tap on or check the kill switch?

There was another electrical problem apart from the seized starter motor......I'm great with medical words but rubbish with this stuff. I'll ask Nick when he checks in next time to post a reply. Ask me something medical and I'm sure I'll be more use! Smile

Wow, what a scare, for an experienced around the world ride like himself I can't imagine anything more terrifying than a starter motor failing, I mean ouch... My starter motor didn't work for my entire 2 week Europe trip a couple of years ago after about 2 hours on the motorway before i'd even left England, didn't stop me, hardly a difficult thing to do.

Bet it was a right laugh, imagine all the things he did and saw while trying to cover 1000 miles a day and not sleep.

There might be a reason you're having to resort to spamming BCF to publish your tales.

Still quite impressive. He proved you can hold down a full time job and do a round the world trip during your holidays Laughing

Ha ha, this place makes me laugh. Even a hint of a chance to take the piss an BCF jumps on it. Surprised you haven't used the medical term:

Mammaries or GTFO

I wouldn't go on one of his tours.
He takes your money, tells you your destination, then pisses off. If you can't keep up you are fucked.

no doubt there will be the book & DVD to follow Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

IMO nick gives overland travellers a bad rep, as the idea of overland travel is to see stuff, meet people etc.

Ah BCF, can find the negative in anything.

Got a new bike ? They can tell you it's shit.

Doing a round the world trip ? Well that's shit too.

What a cheery bunch.
