Bit of a weird question here (valid reason), but here goes:

Would wrapping tin-foil on a tracking device fitted into a car stop it from working? What are other methods of blocking them?

I don't know much about how these things work. Does anyone know?

Thanks

As the trackuing device is inside a big steel cage anyway I'm not sure how much effect a bit of tin foil would have.

tin foil wrap works if it isolates the antennae, alternatively connecting the power feed to the tracker to the ht coil output does an efficient job on them Laughing If you have a `scope and a signal generator it is possible to build a jammer, as these thing are not usually frequency hopping.

What kind of tracking device?

I believe the GPS ones use standard mobile phone 'connections', so presumably a mobile phone blocker would prevent them operating.

Don't worry, it's not my car and I don't want to block any trackers - I'm no chav! It has been attempted on a company van and someones job is on the line. I'm just trying to find out more information about how they work!

Thanks for the replies!

FYI I heard a report of a recovered car fitted with a tracker. They found it already in a container for shipping. Don't know how authentic/reliable this is (may just be the company publicity) but it would appear to rule out the faraday cage blocking transmission theory.

Don't know if this helps, just posting in case it has any bearing.
