I'm on the early shift this week which means me getting up at 4.30am, getting washed, dressed and out to start up the bike.

It was pretty nasty this morning, nasty drizzly rain.

Started her up, choke on, warmed her up for about 5 mins, geared up, gradually released the choke and set off nice and slowly. I get to work without any problems, even though this was my first time riding in the rain and I thought I did pretty well considering I only did my CBT on saturday.

So, I leave work, try and start the bike. dead. bit of choke. dead. Half choke, success!

Got a mile up the road without problems. In the next mile she started coughing and what I thought was misfiring. Got to a roundabout and she almost died when releasing the throttle, changing down to second and putting the throttle back on.

pulled up to sainsbury's to get some ciggies, release the throttle,pull in the clutch, bike dies.

Get ciggies, return to bike, won't start. crap.

Start it with 1/8 throttle, get to roundabout it dies again!

By this point I'm getting pretty frustrated, as I'm just leaving the sainsburys car park and there's a queue of about 12 cars behind me.

So, I just enter my street and it dies again! FFS!

Put the bike in the garage and start to check it over. Battery and contacts are dry, even though it's been pissing down all day. Fuel is in the line. What else could be wrong?

Try and start it and it ust wouldn't have it!

It's then that I realise.......

THE CHOKE IS STILL ON FROM WHEN I LEFT WORK!!!!!

Turned the choke fully off, start the bike with no problems. Throttle response is great and even pulls away nicely.

I feel like such a tit!

Today in the rain, i just avoided ploughing into the back of a car, slid a bit sideways and ended up level with the drivers door and looked at him as if it was his fault ....

It was a pedestrian crossing, he decided to slam on the anchors late on amber .. could of should of went through ..

Anyway, point being .. cars stop quicker and keep your distance ...

Well, i thought everything was sorted and turned out there was ANOTHER problem.

Left for work this morning, got a mile up the road. dead. NOT AGAIN! This time I flipped the switch to reserve and everything was hunky dory.

This got me thinking a bit....

Got to work, whipped out my torch to find out that I actually had very little petrol in the tank. NO WONDER it was coughing like a bitch and cutting out.

Anyway, "no worries", I thought. Filled her up after work £8.35 . Turned the tap to "ON" and gave it a few kicks. Nothing. (don't you hate looking like a tool when your bike won't start ) Switched back to reserve and got home without a problem.

So I thought about what might be happening. I removed the fuel line, placed a jar under the tap and switched back and forth between the main and reserve locations.

Petrol flowed out of both with no problem. So this got me thinking even more. I moved the switch to the OFF position, took off the carb cover and drained the float chamber.

Turned on the main fuel line and petrol flowed through the line.

Thing is I haven't took the bike out for a ride yet to see if petrol still flows from the line while it is running. The good news is it starts without problems on the main switch, idles fine, gives the proper throttle response and even tries to pull away without cutting out.

Does anyone know why it decided not to feed from the main switch after I filled the tank?

I noticed that there was air in the top of the line when I got back. So I'm guessing that there was some kind of air blockage or something.
