We are currently restoring a 1990 Yamaha RX-S 100, which I have received from my grandfather in light of my upcoming 17th birthday. The bike has been stored in a leaking cabin since 1998, so the damage is quite intense...
The damage:
Most of the chrome had surface rust (not really a problem as the rust was coming off with a gentle rub), all the engine, gearbox and all the mechanics had been water damaged beyond repair and engine oil mixed with water leaked out of the engine when we lifted the bike off of the trailer. Also the brake and clutch cables had seized, the wheels were no longer usable and didn't even turn and the electrical system is still a mystery as it uses a 2"x1" 6v Battery.
I was given the chance to buy almost a full set of parts for this bike, the parts which had come from a red version and of the same model, and only a few cables and levers along with the main frame was missing and so I snapped this opportunity up in an instant, for £40 which was bought by my father.
The work is currently being done by a friend who has estimated the total to get the bike on the road at about £500, but in 5 years this bike will be a classic and the bike itself is great so well worth it!
I will update you guys on the progress if you like |
