How many of you have come off the back? How bad was the damage to you and the bike and how fast were you going?

LOL - I flipped my RD125LC the second time I rode it! I redlined it and dumped the clutch, expecting to race off after my other half on his Powervalve, but found myself sitting on my bum in the middle of the road with the bike lying in front of me revving her tits off as the throttle had jammed open where she was lying on her right hand side!
The damage? Bike - all the numberplate screws came off and all rolled down the drain (typical! Rolling Eyes ) and the tacho got smashed and needed replacing. Me - bruised bum and very bruised ego!

Still, it taught me the art of clutch control in one very swift lesson! Thumbs Up Very Happy

Never flipped it but the front on the NSR came up a few times as I tried to race a scooter a couple of months after getting the bike, i was a bit hamfisted with the clutch - Hard to go round a roundabout when the front's bouncing up and down Laughing .

Oh, I came of the back of a ped wheelying before, it makes your bum hell of a sore (and my case, elbows as well) and walking properly was diffult for a few hours after. The ped only had a few scuffs on the plastic and a broken rear brake lever, which was good going. I was only doing about 8mph when I came off mind you. Was funny to watch the ped disapeer in front of me on it's side. Laughing

Have you tried the stuff I said in my Wheelie Guide? Pull off slipping the clutch just below the redline, as you start to pick up a little bit of speed (5-10mph) dip the clutch and dump it. It will wheelie using this method. Wink (btw, that's not the method used in the nsr vids... so it'll be a whole lot more impressive than those Very Happy)

In answer to the original question, I flipped my CG doing standup wheelies on the pillion pegs... Guess who wasn't covering the rear brake. Laughing

And, not really a wheelie, but it was a flip. Just got back from BdB on the storm so I still had the drag racing bug, went out with Korn for some action and pulled off from a set of lights slipping the clutch at peak torque (7k'ish) - needless to say I didn't have a chance in hell of catching it, it just literally did a backflip, hardly even moved forwards! Very Happy Luckily not too much damage, but the one thing that did break - the crankcase cover - cost a fairly large wedge to repair. Sad

The very idea of me doing wheelie is ridiculous because I know I wouldn't be able to do one! I just wouldn't know how and I don't think I'll ever understand them! (they're a bit like mortgages!)

They look cool though, just thought I'd say!

Tried dipping the clutch etc. just doesn't seem to come up. Can do when standing on the pillion pegs, but that ideas a little too dangerous Very Happy

Yes, you have to be leaning right back and reving the balls off it while mooving very slowly before dropping the clutch. Shocked

I had a very near miss when I was on L plates (many moons ago). I pulled onto a roundabout in a gap between 2 cars, unfortunately I was still in 2nd and the motor started to bog so I whipped the clutch in , banged it itno first and dumped the clutch again. Unfortunately I had not backed off the throttle at all and the motor was approaching the redline when the clutch bit again. Shocked At this point the front wheel hoisted up about 2 1/2 feet, which would have been cool except the bike in question was a CM200 with a homemade sidewinder. To this day I am not sure how I kept the bike right way up and made it around the roundabaout intact. Laughing

First... I'd like to point out to those learning to wheelie on a reasonable bike (ie with /some/ torque) that you are pretty unlikely to flip a wheelie until you get better / confident.

Luckily the 'being scared of going to high' thing is what makes you shut the throttle way before it's actually going to flip. It's when you start to get confident and are able to keep it up at around the balance point you have to worry.

My first falling off the back of a wheelie incident involved doing it at around 50-60mph. Not a good idea.
Dented the frame on the bike and holed the crankcase.
Thanks to a not great fitting helmet (best I could afford at the time), and the whole rolling on my head/shoulder thing I had bad concussion.
Very bad headache for at least a week afterwards.
For about a year after I still got a head ache after/while doing exercise. Seems to have gone now.
Had an aching knee, but that didn't last long, so the leathers did their job.

Also fallen off the back of the RD350 at lower speed. Broke the clutch lever on the bike and front wheel went dodgy, not much other damage apart from more scuffs on leathers.
There's a video of that one around somewhere.

Also fell of a nsr when trying to wheelie on a wet road... rear went sideways while the front was in the air. Just a slightly grazed knee and twisted forks when the bike slid into the curb.

I flipped my RD125LC as well (when I was 17) because my clutch was slipping and 4/5 attempts to get it to wheelie saw me sliding down the road on my arse when the clutch finally bit Rolling Eyes bike was not to bad though just scraped the tailpiece and put more scratches on the already scratched fairing

Very Happy

A CM200 is a 200 cc Honda 4 stroke twin- the "custom" version of a CD200 Benly of late 70`s early 80`s vinatge. I bought 2 for £45 and built one up to get on the road cheap. A sidewinder was a wheel on a parrallelogram linkage attached to the side of the bike. Legally it was a sidecar, and in those days you could ride any sized bike with a sidecar on L plates. The sidewinder was good because you could still lean the bike. The sidewinder I built got at least 5 people through their tests.

*smiles* Sidewinders were wonderful inventions. My mother used to run a Panther 120 with a sidewinder outfit on it.
I could never get to grips with sidecar outfits though, keep trying for gaps that really aren't clever when toting extra weight/width.

I Flipped my 1st R6 when trying to change gear! I didnt come off then. I still was holding on to the bike as it came down.

The front wheel was crossed up and it spun around that. I headbutted the tank with my chin and put a massive dent in that. I also took out the rear light and body work! bent the gear changer 90o and took the right hand side fairing out.

crazed the left side and bent the can into an egg shape.

Me:

Swollen Jaw.
Ripped trousers.
Cut inside leg and cut my bits badly Embarassed .
Bruised ribs.

And prop a few other bits I cant remember!
