Evening

Well i bought my 2000 R6 a few weeks ago as a stock bike. I am starting to mod it gradually!

So far, i have bought a few carbon fibre accessories, stubby carbon exhaust, polished heel plates

How she started

This is what i have done so far!
Polished Heel plates

Stubby Carbon Exhaust

A silly small number plate with the club address at the bottom!

https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk229/ShoKzjA/DSCF0896.jpg
Carbon Fibre yoke cover and resivour cap
https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk229/ShoKzjA/DSCF0904.jpg
How she stands at the moment
https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk229/ShoKzjA/DSCF0899.jpg

Next mod ( possibly tommorow ) Exhaust wrapped manifold
https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk229/ShoKzjA/DSCF0901.jpg

New LED Rear light with indicators is in the post, along with flush mount indicators for the front..

After these cosmetic mods, if will be getting engine mods done! Very Happy

looking good. Shame about that fake carbon though. Hate it personally. Whats the idea behind that exhaust wrap? I've seen it on a few bikes but have no idea what it does.

Cheers,
Damon

Each to their own eh! I think its not bad Smile

The exhaust wrap helps the gases flow better and avoids heat loss, i am doing it mainly cause my manifold isnt shiny so it will hide it Laughing

It doesn't, since bikes have no problem with heat dissipation off the headers anyway.

It's designed for cramped car engine bays really, where the hot manifold heats up the whole engine bay, and therefore also the airbox, which in turn heats the air inside and hot air is less dense, so less power.

On a bike it's not a problem since the headers are far better cooled, and the airbox is no where near the headers. There's also the arguement that hot air flows faster, but perhaps only very slightly, if at all. (Personally I'm not convinced it gives you a true gain)

The only thing it's good for is trapping moisture and rotting your headers, or protecting you from burns if your exhaust pipe is routed near your legs.

If it were truely that good then it would be used in Moto GP.

Ah welll, i am mainly doing it to keep my headers in better nick and help prevent any cracks/leaks for as long as possible Smile

I did think that if it was that good then why aren't any of the guys on track using it Thumbs Up Sorry for the thread hi-jack Dave, I'll let you have your thread back now Mr. Green

And I like the carbon can etc. Its just that reservoir cap that destroys it for me tbh. But as you said, each to their own. Good work anyhoo

Yeah, the only flaw in that plan is that when they get wet they trap the moisture right next to the pipe and it also takes longer to dry, so they still rot. Thumbs Up

i think better 'mods' would be something like a steering damper and gear indicator.
polished rearsets and yoke and reservoir cap are gay as fuck, and the small plate looks rediculous as you still have the massive block of an undertray. cut that down or get a tail tidy. even better, a 5MT undertray.

3/10

Don't get me wrong, if you like it then go for it, but wrapping the headers will do nothing to stop corrosion, if anything it'll accelerate it.

Why would a steering damper and gear indicator be better mods??????
From the feeling of the bike you should know if you have the right gear or not.

Steering dampers, people have such a hang up that you must fit one but why. If people are finding that they are getting head shake then they should be looking at the way the bike is set up and spending the money on having the suspsion adjusted.

Matt he has only had the bike 5 minutes why are you on such a slate.

Thank you. I am not interested in a steering damper and i a gear indicator really isnt very desirable imo.. but each to their own

Apart from the exhaust its all pretty gash. I actually agree with Matt even though he's a cunt Very Happy
Steering damper completly transforms early R6's.
Either way I'm just jealous since I sold mine and miss it dearly.

i fitted an ohlins damper to my cbr and no matter what setting i put it on, it made the bike feel like crap, it just made it really sluggish to turn in and kept throwing me wide, i stuck with it for months hoping it was a 'get used to' thing. I also found it just made it feel numb and it was hard to tell what the front end was doing. So i just sold it and the bike feels a million times better now.

I don't understand why people have to come on here and slag of peoples bikes. Fair enough if people have come on to ask for others opinion but when someone is posting their pride and joy it's a different matter. Everyone has their own personal taste, there are bikes in this section that in peoples words I think look "gash" and therefore I just don't respond to the thread for the sake of boosting my post count.

Any way back to this thread, sorry mate I quite like what you have done to you bike

Very uncommon colour, although I would have thought that a Titanium or SS end can would have broken the black at the rear and provided it with a contrast.

Exhaust wraps are also used on endurance bikes where the engines run for 8+ hours on end so there would be some beneficial effects from thermal insulation. I remember seeing a few phase 1 bikes having their headers wrapepd in them.

Corrosion prevention, just spray it with ACF50 OR do the Craig treatment and rub it down with emery.

even with a good set up, they can still occur,
a damper to me would be a more beneficial buy then exhaust tape etc
Thumbs Up

CBR is quite a stable bike, i dont think it calls for one as much as a old R6 Thumbs Up

Because it's a public forum, people can give their opinion whether it be positive or negative.

If people don't want opinions then don't post on a public forum Thumbs Up Either that or just ignore the negative comments, afterall, it's only the internet Thumbs Up
